Pros Good battery life
Usable photo quality for snapshots
Cons AF searches a lot
Soft photos in various scene modes
Auto exposure about -2/3 to -1.0
Toggle between active and review is a real pain
Summary Unless you really need the extra zoom, stay with the ZS5 or ZS7. Better photo quality. Most of the "people" photos were a bit soft and dark. In max zoom mode, it was either feast or famine...nice and sharp or very soft. This is where the AF seemed to struggle.
Pros Worked as advertised for 2 months...I guess that's a PRO but not really sure.
Cons Camera stopped auto-focusing after two months. Customer support refused to assist me while I was traveling for 6 months and proceeded to hang up on me.
Summary I purchased the camera three months ago in the States for my upcoming 6 months of international travel. The camera stopped auto-focusing rendering it as useful as a paperweight. I attempted to use the chat support option which didn't work and then called Panasonic internationally. I was hung up on 30 minutes into this call after they told me they would not be able to support any repair while I am traveling. Panasonic does not care about customer support or standing behind their product once you take it outside the United States. This was the first and last time that I will EVER purchase a Panasonic product!
Pros The zoom lens is excellent before dust invades the sensor.
Cons Dust gets on the sensor, leaving a black spot in the middle of your pics! Don't buy the Panasonic Lumix DMC-ZS8 digital camera because the dust renders the camera unusable after a short time of ownership.
Summary It's not just me, many other reviews I've read decry the fact the ultra-zoom feature on the Panasonic Lumix DMC-ZS8 digital camera attracts dust onto the sensor, leaving black spots in the same location on every picture. The camera is rendered useless. DO NOT BUY THIS CAMERA. I will never buy a Panasonic camera again.
Pros Camera took nice pictures and strong zoom for the 1 month that it worked properly.
Cons -Terrible durability. Made the mistake of buying 2 of these. Both broke within the first 3 months despite taking extra special care of them
-They don't honor their warranty
-Camera gets black marks on the pictures due to dust getting in camera
Summary I made the mistake of buying this camera twice. Both times the camera pictures got black marks on all the photo due to some type of dust getting into the camera. I even took extra special care to keep it clean, leaving it in a zippered case when not in use. The camera is simply made with awful durability. Panasonic must know this as they do not honor their warranty. They give you the run around and don't call you back. Its a shame because the pictures were nice before the ugly black spots appeared. It seems the mega zoom lens in not constructed well allowing dirt and dust in, which ruins your pics with in a few weeks.
Pros Took great Pictures WHEN it worked
Cons Battery Id System Fails Frequently
Summary DO NOT EVER BUY AN EXTENDED WARRANTY AT BEST BUY!!!!
I purchased a Panasonic Luminx DMC-ZS8 in July 2010. In Aug. 2011 the camera failed after 147 pictures in 13 months. (An internal software program designed to require use of Panosonic Brand Batteries Only would not recognize its own battery.) Under the extended warranty program BEST BUY sent the camera for repair twice. This took over 60 days. On the last return, they said the camera was unrepairable and they would give me a store credit to purchase another camera. I HAD NO CHOICE! The $80 I had paid for an extended warranty was no longer valid after they gave me a store credit. A loss of 3years warranty or $60. The store credit was for $149.00 for a camera that I paid $299 for AN ADDITIONAL LOSS OF $150.
SUMMARY: I PAID $380 FOR A WORTHLESS CAMERA THAT BEST BUY'S WARRANTY RETURNED $149 ON. A LOSS OF $231.
I WILL NEVER PURCHASE AT BEST BUY AGAIN
