Summary A friend lent me their K-5 (one model up). This camera less expensive model has all the features I care about and was on sale for $650 for a time on Amazon with 18-55 and 55-300mm kit lenses. In 36 years behind a camera, I have taken the best pictures of my life with this K-R. What higher recommendation is there? It really is an incredible camera.
Pentax did something right with the K-R. I am not sure I would have bought any of their earlier DSLR models. I am sure they were fine cameras, but the K-R is the first they have made that could tempt me away from the Nikon and Canon units.
My hat is off to whoever designed the kit lenses. I am getting images I would not have thought possible.
