Pros Shutter timing, 2.5 LCD, Price, Design, Much More
Cons No Rechargable battery
Summary I had the Pentax Optio 60. I bought it ten days ago, just before my brothers wedding. It was awful, could not take a clear picture in low light. All pictures were blurry even in plain daylight. I though I had expected too much switching from my Casio Exilim to the pentax optio 60. So I returned it today. I was at Costco Wholesale this afternoon when I found the Optio S60. $249, I had a coupon for $50 off so I paid $200. I did some research on this camera but I could not find any noticable differences between the two. Considering Costco's return policy (will return anything, anytime for any reason) I decided to give Pentax one more try.
I am very impressed by this camera. I brought it home, played with it took some pictures in the daylight, of my dogs that looked great. But I expected that much. Went in the house, took pictures of the dogs wrestling on the floor, pictures were clear, and solid... excellent. Turned off the lights and threw a dog treat in between the two dogs and took another picture, again excellent, bright, clear pictures. I like the design of this model better than the 60 (they are similar but not the same)and the larger LCD is nice as well. The manual controls are great and really give you a huge range of options. If you are considering the Optio 60, it is worth the extra money for the S60. Very happy with this purchase.
Pros Great features and easy to use
Cons Very poor, inconsistant, grainy image quality
Summary I'm very disapointed with this camera. I've read mixed reviews on it and took a chance that people who'd bought it didn't know how to use a digital camera all that well. I should have listened. The image quality is nothing like I'd expect from 6 megapixels. I'm sending it back as soon as possible.
Pros $167 for a 6 megapixel camera!
Cons Haven't tried it yet.
Summary So far, this camera should be in the "under $200" category. It has not 5, but 6 megapixels for the money, AND Nikon and Pentax have/make the best lenses, so you're pics will be as sharp as your memory settings choose it to be.Updated
Don't pay what Amazon wants for this camera. $300 is insane. Go to MPSuperstore.com, and you'll pay almost HALF! Only $167, and that includes shipping!
"Mixed Feelings"on by k_greeneyes
Pros For me, great Pictures and easy to use.
Cons Inconsistent battery life, says batteries are dead when they are RIGHT off the charger. Takes too long to focus to the light, misses the best shots because of it!
Summary I have mixed feelings about this camera. When I first got it it was acting up and would take a picture but the flash would semi go off...and now it's back at it after 3 years of being good. For a while the batteries in it would last through an entire concert, on the whole time while taking pictures and videos. Now can barly get 3 shots out of it. It's falling apart...though I am rough with it...it SHOULD last, I paid almost 200 for it.
Pros Nice quality images when working
Cons Prone to breaking
Summary I've never had a digital camera with the track record of the Pentax OptioS60. After a few months of owning the camera, a pink line began to show up on the LCD screen AND all the photos. I then received a replacement unit and then lens broke on that unit. I'm 0 for 2 with this camera, that just isn't acceptable. The battery life is horrible. It's a real disappointment from a company that has been known for superb professional cameras.
