Summary There are so many little digital cameras out there that it's hard to stand out. And they are all pretty good, each with very minor pros and cons over the others. The Samsung PL200 is a solid choice for a point and shoot camera. I bought this camera, frankly, because I was looking for a cheap camera for my son to take on a school trip to Italy. My first instinct was to buy Canon or Sony, until I saw this camera, it's features and it's price. I bought it at a local big box store for just $108. At that price, there really is no competition for this camera. Similar featured cameras are all around $159. My son picked up the camera and immediately knew how to do everything - the controls are simple and intuitive. The zoom lens gets wide enough for group shots (I took a shot of his entire class just before leaving on their trip) and is a 7x optical zoom. If you're unfamiliar with compact cameras, forget about the number given for digital zooms - digital zooming simply enlarge the image and therefore decrease the quality. Nowadays virtually any free photo editing software can do the same thing after the fact.
I should mention here that I am a professional photographer. I was pleasantly surprised to find that not only can this camera do everything for you in auto mode, it also has a wide variety of manual settings found on more expensive cameras including; white balance, metering options, exposure compensation, bracketed exposures, and an ISO range of 80-3200. I can't tell you how many times since we've had this camera that I've said to my son "That's as good as MY camera!"
