"The Fullback of Cameras -- Can't Wait for the SD14"
Pros: Great detail; strong color reproduction; incredible for macro and portrait work; RAW format and accompanying software is actually a nice feature and easy to work with
Cons: heavy; Battery/Power source issues; sluggish performance; weak performance beyond ISO 200; limited lens selection
Summary: I've been using the SD10 for 10 months now, and overall I'm pretty happy with it, and look forward to release of the SD14. I'm firm a believer in the the Foveon technology and MUCH prefer it to the Bayer photosensor paradigm, despite a quirky implementation in the SD10 model. I think the SD14 will have a lot of kinks I experienced with the earlier SD9 and SD10 models, including weak performance beyond ISO 400 (which I was able to 'work around' to some exent -- while in London I even got a satisfying nighttime shot of Big Ben at ISO800, and that's saying something with the SD10). Its also the heaviest DSLR I've ever held, but I actually prefer that too...it feels solid, not 'plasticky", and its weathered several bumps and drops VERY well. I'm exceptionally pleased with the quality of my macro and portrait photos -- this is really where the Sigma line and its Foveon chip excels, and its played out in my own work with the camera. I think this is also due in large part to some fine mid-range Sigma lenses I bought to accompany my camera. All in all, I'm satisfied with my Sigma system. I think CNet's rating of the SD10 is right on the mark, and wager ratings for the third-generation SD14 will be even better!
