"Excellent for beginners in SLR"
Pros: The ability to point and shoot AND get a great shot without having to fiddle difficult settings is a big relief for me and, I suppose, any newcomer to the world of SLR without experience of analog cameras.
Cons: The only let-down I can think off, is that my wife finds it too large for her hands, she can't hold it proper.

Cons: Not enough lenses on the market that aren't going to send you to the poor house.
