"Very nice camera!!" on by Thiago Ghiggi
Pros: Small, light, wel made, great photos and movie. Great battery autonomy
Cons: Photos are just a little soft.
Summary: I recently bought the sony w30. I never was a enthusiat of small cameras and mainly sony cameras, considering that i own a Nikon D70. But, lately, i´ve been looking to a camera small and light enough to cary in my shorts pocket or into my t-shirts pocket.
Well, i can securely say that is a wonderful camera and takes great photos. It´s is very well made and has nice stilish look.
The battery is fantastic. The hight ISO is great, allowing take photos without flash and...no blurring.
I just think that photos a little soft, but its ok, considering that is a low-end camera.
Movies are excelent, but be prepare to spend some bucks to buy a memory stick DUO.
The sony W30 is a very responsable camera and can focus very very fast in outdoor ambients, and no so fast in dim light. Perfect to shot my three years old kid.
Macro funcion is terrific...2 cm.
The flash is nice...and indoor photos are great...nice skin looking.
Multi burst function (16 frames into a single photo) - despite that others are saying - is very useful to me.
Approved and recommended.
Best regards from Brazil,

"Great camera for anyone" on by NotInTheHead
Pros: Great Shots, connects to PC VERY EASILY
Cons: Need the memory stick to make it worthwhile
Summary: I've had only a few digital cameras. I really was afraid about getting this small of a camera. I really enjoy it. I've taken many shots & video of my 9 week old son. I've enjoyed it very much.
I can very easily transfer video and pictures to the PC without any additional software.
I bought the 256 MB memory stick at the time of the purchase of the camera and I consider it a necessity. With the memory stick you can shoot up to 11 minutes of video if need be. -
"Definitely one of the best pocket digicam in 2006" on by Miata_Driver
Pros: Easy to use, USB to PC easily, Small, Chicks Magnet
Cons: Easy to scratch, not designed to last forever engineering speaking
Summary: Like many readers, i spent days reading tons reviews all over the web to find the ultimate digicam. I tested over 20 different 2005-6 digicams, Fuji, Nikon, Penthax, HP, you name them. I compared the photos and came to a conclusion.
If you are shopping for the ultimate best pocket digicam you can stop right here. The Sony DSC line is probably the best you can get for the bucks. And this is not my ego speaking, trust me. I can always tell you not to buy the DSC-W30 so i can be the best photographer in the world, but i rather not.
Surely there are better digicam if you are willing to spend 500.00 bucks. But at 200.00 bucks, you will never get anything as good as the DSC-W30.
This model (out of the box) is so easy to use i didn't have to read the manual.
The camera came with an USB to PC cable compatible with 1.1 and 2.0 USB.
A thiny lithium battery and the charger block to charge the battery. In order to charge the battery, you have to pull it out of the camera (takes about 3 sec to remove the battery from the cam and them put it on the charger block.
The DSC-W30 uses the Memory stick Duo Pro. Actually, it is the same memory stick found in the Sony PSP (Play Station Portable).
So if you own a PSP already, you can borrow the memory from your PSP and use it in the DSC-W30 it won't damage the PSP data.
Moreover, you can view the photos taken by the DSC-W30 on your PSP. no need to browse or convert anything, simply switch the memory stick from the DSC-W30 to the PSP and Voilà.
The indoor pictures taken are fantastic and crystal clear. Even in the almost dark.
I ride a motorcycle everyday and i needed a good digital cam for outdoor aswell.
I quickly tested the DSC-W30 on my motorcycle which has lots of chrome and the camera also did a fantastic job. The outdoor photos were so clean and colorful that you don't see any difference between a 500 bucks 6.0MP and the 200.00 bux DSC-W30.
There are to many functions to list them all, rapid 3 shoots, flash delay, flash disable, ISO , 3x optical zoom, etc...
The internal memory (out of the box) is big enough to let you take about 12 pictures of 2.x megabyte each. In other words, you will definitely need to buy a 1 GB or better memory stick. I recommend a 2GB or 4GB (if you own a PSP)
The movie mode, is a mode that let you film a sequence. Bigger your memory stick longer is your movie.
2 GB memory should let you record about 1h30. thats 1 hour and half.
The movies motion is 30 frames per second at 640x480 resolution and saved in Mpeg format with sound !!! Yes with Sound !
No special codec needed on your PC to view the movie. Simply transfer the file and play the movie.
The camera is small, light and compact. Small enough to put it in your pocket let they say.
BUT DON'T DO THAT !
If you do, make sure you empty first. Money changes, house/car keys, and anything metalic in your pocket will easily scratch the camera case. Don't ask me how i know that!
The CONS:
The USB cover on the camera seems very fragile (sorta rubber made). In long term i suspect its going to break.
The camera case is metallic grey and easy to scratch. But again, if you know a professional airbrush painter, you may be able to hide the scratch.. Just don't do what they say, like carrying it in your pocket along with your house keys...
The camera doesn't come with any casing. Sony is kinda greed, no protective. you must buy your own.
When you turn the camera on, you hear a music and see Sony logo on the screen. Kinda anoying especially if you are hiding and trying to take a picture secretly (know what i mean).
To resume,
The DSC-W30 is the best compact digi cam you can get for 200.00 bucks. If 200 bucks is too expensive, go with the Sony DSCS600, that one is bigger in size but does the same job for 80 bucks less.
Indoor and Outdoor photos are crystal clear. The cam is easy to use, Does movie at 30 fps 640x480 resoltion (not as good as real cam though). Don't buy this if you want to shoot movies. This is meant for photo mainly.
Easy to scratch (carrying case is optional)
Lithium battery must be removed in order to be recharged. Lithium battery are practical as you won't need to buy AA alkalin ever.
But remember that 20 years, the lithium battery for this model will be hard to find while AA battery will always be available in any country. I know, i know, this cam will probably not last 20 years, it will probably break in a couple of years if i don't drop it, but it may last a little longer in the hand of a collector. -
"TERRIFIC camera that is perfectly priced for the included." on by oxkeithscowgirlxo
Pros: Great for non-tech-savvy users, great nighttime photos, good movies
Cons: large for a slim camera
Summary: This camera is really great for what it's worth... around $230. The movie mode is awesome if you just want a clip to share with your friends, or if you feel like capturing a little more than a second in time.
The camera is thin, and it fits in your pocket well. I can't think of a better camera! -
"Very Good quality" on by ab202
Pros: Takes very good pictures, small, easy to use
Cons: Buttons wear off, often blurry pictures
Summary: It's very compact and also takes amazing quality pictures with enhanced colour and zoom effect. The only problem I found is the setting buttons wear off to the point that the dialed setting is not kept in place making it difficult to review or take pictures.
