"i love it!" on by muktar6

Pros: great outdoor photos- clear, sharp, great colors, easy menu, lots of settings, external battery charger, tripod mount,

Cons: doesn't come with a case

Summary: i got this camera just a few days ago and so far i love it!

the menus are easy to navigate through and there are lots of different settings. also the battery lasts a long time with each charge!!

it takes amazing photos in natural light, and also great photos in dark rooms. i took a photo in a room that had no lights on, just light from the tv and the flash is so great that the picture came out very bright and perfect! you can take amazing photos with this camera if you use the right settings.

you can also set the iso on auto, or up to 1000. this is very helpful and the iso 1000 pics come out great (although in certain lighting situations they may be a little grainy, but so far no problems with this).

the software that it comes with is also very easy to use - it will automatically import only the new photos you took instead of everything on the memory stick- and will organize them by date and you can view them by calendar or folder. VERY cool!

another bonus is that it has an external battery charger. this is great incase you want to buy an extra battery and you can use the camera while the other battery charges. you can also get an adapter to charge the battery while its still in the camera but this does not come with the camera.

one thing i absolutely love about this camera is that there is no delay when taking a picture. my sister has a nikon and there is a long delay between when you push the button and when the picture is taken - this often makes it difficult to take the photo you originally intended. However, this sony does not do that! you push the button halfway to focus and then all the way and it takes the photo!

the movie feature is also nice, i have a 1gb memory stick and i can hold almost an hour of movie! it takes good movies but you have to hold the camera fairly steady when doing so. also you can't use the zoom function during recording, so you have to set it before you start recording.

overall this is an awesome camera and i definitely recommend it!!

"Very Surprised at "Editor's Rating"" on by fochrist1

Pros: Excellent everyday pictures, very quick, sturdy, honest point and shoot

Cons: sometimes slow to focus, proprietary sony products

Summary: This is mine and my wife's third digital camera in four years, and it is by far the best camera (digital or film) yet. We've had a kodak, and most recently, a nikon and both of us feel like we have really stepped up in quality. We both spent about a week researching digital cameras before our cruise and we had settled on the Cannon SD600. Had it for about four days, and my wife and I both decided that the picture quality of the cannon was very, very poor. In fact, we disliked the cannon so much that we voluntarily took the camera back to bestbuy and paid the restocking fee just to purchase the sony.

What I didn't tell you is that we had felt as though the Sony took better pictures in the store, but all reviews between the cannon SD600 and the sony dsc-w70 favored the cannon heavily. Even the store sales person said that he would take the cannon hands down.

I now disagree and would highly recommend this camera to anyone who desires to have a solid, easy to handle camera that you can feel confident using to capture your treasured memories in a split second. My wife, a moderate camera user, is in love with this device. She keeps it in her purse and we have taken almost 700 pictures on two battery charges. Enjoy.

"REC PHOTOGRAPHERS - GOOD BUY" on by Spoo07

Pros: The camera is really easy to use, the picture quality is great, the design/compactness/sleekness is fantastic, big LCD (for the camera size) and great movie mode.

Cons: Shutter and Auto-Focus speed in low-light, not that many camera modes, and the accesories that the camera comes with.

Summary: I bought this camera a few days ago. Originally, I intended on buying the 6 megapixel W50, but they were sold out and gave me a discount on the W70. I also bought a 1gig Duo memory stick for $60 (it has 58mb internal) and a carrying case (non included in box).

Out of the box, I was bummed that there was a battery docking station to recharge, but it's probably better as the power into the camera has, what looks like, a flimsy hinge. Some of the buttons are small, which isn't a problem for me, but may be a hassle for people with bigger fingers. So, I think the design is great, impressed with the 1g memory chip that fits next to the battery, and is a lot smaller than I anticipated.

Picture quality is great. The images are crisp and sharp, however, in lower lighting conditions some of the pictures seemed to blur, but changing the camera modes helped a lot. There aren't a lot of different camera modes, but it covers the basic and the ones most often used.

Overall, I think it's a great camera for it's design, ability to take great photos and high quality movie mode (with sound).

"Excellent camera, great for every day, heavy use." on by Stojio

Pros: Has everything you'll need, great movie mode, tons of options, the macro is like having your own microscope!

Cons: Doesn't come with a case - but hardly any cameras do!

Summary: I've had this camera for a good while now, and it I use it for artistic expression and as a party-camera, taking it to nightclubs, etc. I have taken some absolutely spectacular photographs with this little baby.

It's very sturdy - I have dropped it on concrete and it's only a little scratched (not that I'd encourage you to be clumsy with it), and it's a good price for what you get.

The macro especially is just unbelievable - superb even! I took a macro photo of a housefly and you can see the hair on it's legs! The movie mode is very good quality too, even on a TV screen.

The only bad points I can see are that you can't zoom in movie mode once you've started recording (grrr!) but this is just the same as the vast majority of point 'n' shoot digicams, and unfortunately it doesn't come included with a case (much the same as the majority again).

In short, as someone who has owned many digicams, I can definately recommend this camera VERY highly. I know that anybody using this camera for the first time will be very happy and find the menu-system more than easy to use.

The whole camera is very nicely put together, solid and compact - just don't leave it anywhere unattended as you WON'T get it back again...that much is guaranteed!

"had it for one day and made me never want a sony again" on by hopeyfix

    Pros: attractive looks, resonable price

Cons: bad screen, awful focus, noisy with iso over 400, uses a sony card, no manual controls

Summary: it was a very bad experience. if you breathe, it gets out of focus. the screen is big and bright, but very pixilated. the iso goes high by itself and brings tons of grain, if you leave it on the automatic. returned it in the day after and got a canon sd1000, which has been fully satisfying.
