"Nice little camera" on by MoonlitPoetry476

Pros: Compact, sharp pictures, and easy to use

Cons: You have to be completely still to get a clear photo

Summary: Well, I've wanted a digital camera for a while now, so I went down to Circuit City in search of a FujiFilm FinePix A500, but when then didn't have that, or my second choice of a Kodak, I got this one. Partially because of the price and because of the fact that I thought it was cute and compact. The saleperson said that it was a good camera, but I think she'd tell me anything to get a sale. Anyway, I've taken a few pictures of myself standing in the mirror and of random objects in my bedroom and the pictures look FANTASTIC. I think (and hope) I invested my money well in this camera, if not, then it will be getting sold and I'll be buying another one.

"Great Little Camera So Far!" on by bhartman33

Pros: Very Sharp Pictures, Simple Controls

Cons: Limited White Balance Adjustments, Screen Flush To Camera

Summary: I've had this camera a few days. So far, I've really liked the pictures I've taken. They're super-sharp. (I have yet to take an outdoor picture, so that would be my one caveat.) The ability to blow up a photo 2 or 3 times and still have it be clear is really nice. The controls are very simple. Within a few minutes, I could take any kind of picture I wanted.

I really only have one gripe so far: There are presets for the white balance (cloudy, incandescent lights, etc.) but there's no customization for the white balance. This means that you might be left with only an approximation of accurate color, depending on your lighting conditions.

A few people have talked about blurry pictures. I haven't had that problem so far. I don't know what moving targets would look like, but all the still shots I've taken have come out perfectly clear. It's just a matter of letting the autofocus kick in.

One other thing does bug me, though: the LCD screen is flush with the back of the camera. This means that if you drop it, the screen is vulnerable to getting smashed or cracked. So if you're going to give this to someone who is accident-prone, you might want to keep that in mind.

"Doesn't take clear photos" on by danmelmed

    Pros: familiarity with cybershot series

    Cons: terrible picture clarity

Summary: I had another DSC model before and usually took crisp pictures. I bought this one and tried everything but I imagine that unless i put the thing on a tripod the pictures would be anywhere from very to slightly blurry. I am exchanging it for another model. I traditionally have loved Sony but I dont recommend this annoying little camera.

"You can do much better!" on by Troggel

    Pros: Price Only

    Cons: Quality and Service

Summary: Don't buy this camera. Picture quality is poor unless you are perfectly still. The LCD screen is completely useless in any outdoor light. If you are an experienced photographer you may be able to manipulate settings (but if your experinced I hope your buying a better camera). I used this camera in auto mode. I owned this camera for less than three months and have now purchased a canon. Yes I paid a little more, but well worth it. Also tried to get help from Sony support and they were absolutely unhelpful. In fact if you call them they use a different registration than if you registered online. This camera bacame a throw away. I tossed $179 into my trash.

"Be sure user has latest OS" on by Lawgirlt

Pros: Big LCD, Intuitive controls, feels pretty solid

Cons: Must have latest OS, or software is useless

Summary: Just wanted to give you the heads-up. If you are giving this as a gift, especially to older people or those who are not particularly tech-saavy, make sure they are not using Windows 98. There is no fix or patch that will allow them to use the software that comes with the camera on that operating system. This is a pain if you have to pay a re-stocking fee for store returns. Can't tell you how camera works yet since we have to find a PC that my parents can use with it.
