"An excellent P&S..... if you understand how it works" on by MPM83
Pros: Compact size and minimal shutter lag
Cons: Lets you take a photo before focus is achieved
Summary: A unacceptable percentage of initial shots I took were out of focus until I discovered that this camera allows you to take images before focus is achieved. I confirmed this with Sony and this is the way the camera has been designed.
The manual says press the shutter half way AND WAIT UNTIL THE GREEN LIGHT COMES ON INDICATING FOCUS HAS BEEN AQUIRED. Once focus is achieved, press the shutter the rest of the way to capture the image.
If you press the shutter all the way down without stopping at the half way point (which is what I was doing), focus may or may not have been achieved by the time the shutter released.
Once I realized how the camera worked all my shots are tack sharp.
Anther issue some people have commented on are the white spots that show up in some pictures. These can be annoying but photos from all the compact cameras I have tried had these spots. These are simply specs of dust floating in the air that have been illuminated by the flash. This is not a camera defect however a physically larger camera with more separation between the lens and the flash can be less susceptible to this phenomenon; although such a camera is far less pocketable.

"pricey for its quality" on by taciturn28
Pros: compact, thin good size LCD screen.
Cons: battery does not last very long.lasts for 3-4 hrs if used continuesly, the image processing time is very slow,
Summary: its too pricey for the quality it provides.image quality is normal.one can get this type of image quality from a less priced camera as well. the image processing time is slow and quite annoying.we went to Shamu's show at Sea World,FL and i was trying to take pictures of the killer while but was unable to capture the moments i wanted to,because it takes about 10 secs to swtich back to the capture mode after the 1st picture was taken.with flash its much longer.
one can buy a canon powershot camera for a lesser price which provides the same service. -

"beautiful but difficult in certain situations" on by joninmontana
Pros: slim, many features, easy to manuver through once you learn how, good looking
Cons: white balance is off, low light pictures difficult, flash causes blobs on pictures, I'm always putting my finger over the lens, hard to hold
Summary: I bought this camera to go to Brazil. I wanted a camera that could do it all in a small form that wouldn't get noticed by thieves. I had trouble learning how to use it's features like how to set it for good video quality because the symbols are small and my near vision isn't great. Small means you have to hold on to it with two hands and I was often putting my finger over the lens. Sometimes the flash (set to auto) would go off even on a sunny day. Thats ok if needed for fill but the flash is right next to the lens and sometimes a big blog of light would fill the upper right side of the picture. With everything set to auto the images often seem to lack contrast and are a bit dim. The best pictures were taken at night within 10 feet of the subject. I have since experimented with all the different settings but find the high quality image problomatic to take.
