Summary I bought this camera to replace an older 3 megapixel camera I had, which was on it's last leg. I have a newborn on the way, and wanted to be able to take pictures of her when she decides to come out.
I am impressed by this camera. It has excellent features and takes great pictures, the response time from when the shutter button is pressed to when the picture is taken could be better, but I have seen worse - much worse. I like the ease of use of the camera - I never had to read the directions to use it. Overall it is a great camera for everyday use. Not for the photographer or enthusiast. -

Cons everything about it
Summary I bought this because my Kodak Easy Share was stolen. I thought this would be comparable. I was wrong. The pictures are often blurry, it takes forever to take the actual picture. I have had many subjects ask "did it take it yet" because it takes so long. The software is bad as others have stated and there aren't any upgrades you can get like a better lens. (that I can find) Also seems to go through batteries faster than the Kodak - rechargeable.

Cons Diminished features.
Summary I'm not a camera snob- just a guy who loves a good, all-around point and shoot.
I had a DSC-S600, the camera before this one. I figured that with the model numbers going up, the feature set on this series of cameras would improve. Well I was wrong, and there are some problems with this unit that will be having me return it tomorrow, GLADLY paying a restocking fee and chalking it up to my ignorant trust in a name brand company.
Stuff I do like:
• They did upgrade from 6MP to 7.1MP. Not that I would ever shoot that high anyways, in favor of disk space usage (99% of the time folks just want good snapshots. How often have you really printed out an 11x17photo lately?). But there are more pixels if you want.
• Small LCD screen (2in.) saves batteries- big time!
• It takes AA batteries. I use rechargeable AA's and get and insane amount of use ( >400 shots). When in a bind, or another country you can just pick up AA's when the batt is dead and keep going. Try that with a proprietary battery!
Now the CONS! These are actually steps BACKWARD!!!
• Camera feels VERY cheap- not sturdy at all.
• Movies resolution has been halved from 640 by 480! ONLY the minuscule 320 by 240 is avail. now!!!
• Movies are .avi's now, not .mpg's
• The audio is distorted at conversational levels. Oh, and it doesn't play back the audio when reviewing a video on the unit. No speaker?
...and the real kicker?...
• YOU canNOT USE A STANDARD USB CABLE LIKE ALL OTHER CAMERAS do! Instead, the cable is a normal USB connector on 1 side, and some NEW connector that LOOKS similar to standard Mini-USB. If you loose or misplace this special cable, you're screwed!
Unfortunately none of these important cons were mentioned on any review site I found. So I'll be returning this tomorrow.

Cons poor image quality, most of the features are just show off
Summary i replaced my nikon coolpix 3100 (which is a 3.2 mega pixel camera) with this cam. i was surprised to see the poor image quality, specially the sharpness of the outdoor images. most of the show off features are very poor in result. like for example- the iso feature give extremely poor images. on the contrary it gives reasonable quality images comparing to the similar price range cameras. but if your are a serious photographer and image quality is a major issue.. i'd suggest dont buy it!

Cons No viewfinder
Summary I was in the market for a new digital camera because I had not upgraded in quite some time. I studied the features of all the cameras in the $130 range and came to the conclusion that Sony offers the best mix of features for the money. I also found the Sony website to be helpful in offering free online photography courses to help the user maximize the cameras capabilities while educating me on how to take the best possible pictures. So far I have used this camera to take both still and action pictures. Both have come out well. The only drawback with this camera is that it lacks a viewfinder. Now, this is not very important if the majority of your pictures are taken indoors. However, out in the direct sunlight, it is very difficult to know if you are centering your subject in the LCD. After a while, you may get proficient at guessing, but I would just prefer a viewfinder instead or trial and error. Other than the lack of a viewfinder, I really find no fault with this camera.
