"Feature loaded pocketable camera" on by tgettle
Pros: Provides true HD output when Cybershot Station CSS-HD2 is used
Cons: It is easy for a finger to hit the touchscreen menu display when taking a photo
Summary: The pictures that I have taken thus far (about three weeks of use) are what I would expect for a 10 Meg camera. In particular, the output to my HDTV is spectacular when using the Cybershot docking unit. This was the feature that was most in my wants when shopping for a camera. Another plus factor for me is the availability of Wide-End Conversion Lens which takes the camera's wide view to app. a 25mm lens. I have always found that I take more wide shots than telephoto. You can always crop to get a telephoto view, but you can't add width to a photo if it was not there when the shot ws taken. The conversion lens (VCL-DEO7TB)is small and also pocketable making it easily available when I want to use it.
As for the photos, I have not observed the noise mentioned in CNET's review. That review almost prevented me from purchasing this camera. In fact, I purchased it where I knew the return policy would not be a hassle in case I found the photos to be unacceptable. This is not the case. I recommend that if the features of the camera are what you want, buy one and try it for yourself. Just be sure of the return policy in case you decide to return the camera. I'm betting that you will not find that you want to! -
"Do reviewers even use these devices?" on by nate1749
Pros: The picture quality is amazing to me, I'm surprised that was the con. This is my 3rd digital camera and definitely seems to be the best so far. I also love the size, it fits in my front pocket w/o any discomfort.
Cons: Sony's menu navigation system is annoying to me, I'm so used to Canon's that I really wish they would have a similar setup, but they don't. I'm sure if I was a Sony person switching over to a canon I'd feel the same way. And of course, $$$$.
Summary: One of the complaints the original review had was that you constantly had to press "ok," for everything that you did pretty much. Well initially you do, but you can turn this off by finding the function guide feature and switching it to Off. After playing with the camera for a few minutes I found this, kind of makes me wonder how much these reviewers even look at the devices and do they even glance at the manuals?
I would recommend it, but I think this camera is also a niche camera. Whether you're looking for certain features, the really large lcd screen, or just the latest tech gadget, I would think that the majority of people could buy a camera for about half the price and it would still fit their needs. Overall I'm very satisfied, but would have been a lot more so if the price would have been $280 rather than $380. I took 1 star off because of the price that I feel is a bit much, didn't take any off for the menu system since I feel that's just something I'll learn in time since even my first canon digital camera took some time getting used to. -
"Fancy looking, Abysmal picture quality for a high end model" on by Wiriamu5
Pros: Sleek and stylish
Cons: Abysmal picture quality
Summary: I completely agree with the editors, this camera is very sleek and fancy looking, but its picture quality is abysmal. I thought it would be a nice time to upgrade to a new camera before I go on my trip and picked up this camera. When I stuck it on my tripod and took a photo, then took the same photo with my DSC-W50 (both on full automatic settings); the difference in picture quality was very obvious. The DSC-T300 image was softer and had alot of noise in comparison to the sharpness and scarcity of noise of my DSC-W50 (6 megapixel camera). In conclusion, if you want a camera that looks fancy and high tech to impress your friends, by all means get this one. If you prefer a better picture quality I recommend you look elsewhere.
