"Brilliant camera for the price range"
Pros: Excellent picture quality, complete set of manual features, very strong flash, large LCD
Cons: no image stablizer, Auto-Focus could be smarter, crappy manual,
Summary: This is the 4th digital camera I've owned and probably the 100th camera I have tried(I used to sell them at a retail store).
I decided to buy it when I noticed it took magnificent indoor pictures without using flash! I went to a retail store and tried testing the camera in different modes. I was amazed by the manual options and how easy to set they were on this little thing.
The quality of the LCD screen was another factor that got me into buying this camera. At 2 inches wide, the LCD refresh rate is truely great. Moving the camera in different directions caused minimum distortion to the LCD-view.
The manual-mode on this camera is what I fell in love with once I purchased it. I can take pictures that are hardly achievable with a $2000 SLR. Some of the easily accessible settings in manual mode are: ISO, EV, Saturation, Brightness, Sharpness, Shutter Speed, metered focus, macro-mode, flash strength, Burst/MultiBurst, texture, and some others I can't recall.
The camera is able to take very bright pictures at almost absolute dark. The Laser-focus is great.
The histogram can be accessed with a press of a button at anytime so you can be sure you have a good quality picture before you even preview it on the camera or see it on your computer.
The 3x optical zoom works as good as it should. The digital zoom is as useless as any other camera in the market, but the smart-digital-zoom feature makes it slightly more barable!
The playback features are basically as good as any standard camera out there. I really like the on-camera resize/crop and grouping features. If you're running out of memory, just resize a bunch of your pictures to a lower megapixel(choices are 1MP, 2MP, 3MP, 3.2MP and 4MP) and you got yourself some space!
The automatic lens cover is very convenient. I no more have to worry about losing my lens cap or touching the lens with my finger. Pressing the ON/OFF button makes the camera completely ready for immediate shooting or immediate confiscation.
Forget about using alkaline batteries and have at least 2 sets of recharged AAs handy.
Forget about the 32MB built-in memory. You need at least 256MB to be able to take the camera on road for a weekend. A 512MB is ideal for this 4MP camera.
Overall I think this camera is here to stay with me and if I break it today, I'll go and buy it again even if I have to pay $50 more.
