"touch screen, who cares?"
Pros: 3 inch screen, high mexapixel count
Cons: might be expensive
Summary: I dont see what the big deal about a touch screen is? Its only going to get the screen dirty. The 3 inch size seems like a bigger deal to me. Just cause a touch screen "sounds cool" why is cnet saying its the best thing since lcd? Is it really going to do anything special.

It's the picture quality that counts...not some gimmick!

Its not only an 8 megapixel ultracompact, its also a picture viewing device with a 3 inch high resolution (230,000 pixel) screen. They REALLY upped the ante on the lcd screen quality doubling the pixel reolution of the Canon SD550 which has a 2.5 inch, 113,000 pixel screen. If photo quality meets high standards this will fly off the shelves. I own all canon now... that could change. Will be interesting to see Canon's response to this. Also see the Olympus 700 and the Fuji F11.

A touch screen on a small digital camera may not be the right answer .. smudges and the inevitable urge to clean it .. usually improperly. I see greater utility in keeping the joystick, in say, a 5-way configuration and using the 3-inch screen to provide On Screen Navigation of the camera's menu options. This would be consistent with a generation of users growing up on iPods and Treo phones for example and provide in most cases one-handed operation. As snapshot cameras have gotten smaller, so has the ability to read any button labels. On Screen Navigation is the answer. BTW, Treo 600 and 650 have touchscreens, but most users use the joystick!

everytime you want to focus on something you dont have to use the touch screen...you can just use autofocus.
and if i read correctly there is a stylus that comes with it so you dont even have to use your fingers to operate it. -
I had sony camcorder dcr hc 20 and it also had a touch screen after some days of use the lcd panel got dirty and full of finger prints. the main screen could be cleaned using moist tissues but the extreme corners still had the dirt on it intact as its pretty difficult to clean that stuff too..
and more oever if you have nails..its very difficult to operate u have to be careful not to poke ur nails onto the screen...considering all these points and many more...i feel normalpush buttons are much better choice than touch screen! -
This review is correct. A 3 inch touch screen will be a fingerprint display after a few minutes of use. Imagine the fun of having to hold the camera in one hand, turning it to avoid glare in bright sun, and trying to bring your fingertip to the right spot of the screen. Then try doing it quickly to avoid missing any "picture moments."
