"Great Must Have Pocketable Hi-MP Camera"
Pros: Powerful Power Shooter, Tons of Control, Easy Usage...
Cons: Startup could/should be faster, Menus still need improving
Summary: This is a quick initial $0.02 worth / first impressions about this new camera. Initially, I was going to go with the T100 but the delays for the Black version had me test out the T20 instead. After analyzing and comparing, I decided that for my needs that this camera is perfect. Essentially, it is practically the same camera but cost $100 less. Sure you get a slighty smaller screen, and a slightly smaller aperture and 2x less zoom, but I could not justify the difference enough to justify getting the T100. The T20 is smaller and slimmer and once again, form factor wins me over for this 8.1MP camera. This camera has come a long way and utilizes some very interesting new technologies available for the time in a point and shoot type. I am still testing but so far I'm very impressed. Images are by far the crip-est and clearest I've seen in a long time, and the flash is extremely POWERFUL and very capable. Lots and lots of options and of course built in HDTV Output!!! Unfortunate, Sony went with proprietary connection instread of mini USB, and NO HDMI connectors, only "HD" Component. Still, the picture on my Hitchi Plasma is awesome to say the least. This Camera will be with me until the next generation Cams come out with at least 18-20MP capability. I do advise you on buying extended warranty, as the focus motor can prematurely weaken or malfunction as with my last Sony CyberShot model. The screen back is unique, this time there is a solid sheet of plastic? or glass with Anti-reflex coating that covers the entire back making it a finger print magnet but also easy to clean. FOrm facter is big for me and was one of the deciding factors. I also purchased the HDTV docking station that also acts as a charger and comes with an Ir remote. There is apparently one problem with the docking station, you can't play videos while docked. Still investigating this anomaly as this does not seem right.
The Menu system has been revamped and to be honest, I still like the old one, but I'm sure with time, I'll get usued to it. Start up time seems good although instant on and shoot would be nice. Zoom buttons could have been larger...Updated
Further to my last post re: docking station; you need to PULL OUT the component connection at the Station to access the video on the camera. Putting the component connection back trumps the video connection. I don't know why Sony didn't just add a hardware switch. Pictures thus far are coming out very clear but I still need to play with the flash settings, as it seems to be over compensating. I'm noticing more startup lag time (extra 2-4 seconds) but this is not confirmed. I recommend you use the included strap as this form factor plus a smooth slippery surface will almost guarantee a drop sooner or later. Access time on the camera via 2.0 USB connection is very fast and decent. I'm not too pleased how sony decided to menu drive the most important controls via software. A few more hardware buttons should have been added for fast and quick access to common typical controls. Programmable buttons would be been even better (see no reason why this could not have been added) aside from this, for the most part still very happy. I still don't see why I would go with the T100 as the images by comparison is very negligible to my eyes.
Happy snapping
