"Kind of conspicuous and ugly. But it takes great photos."
Pros: Easy to use. Easy to hook up with computer. Great pics.
Cons: Conspicuous & ugly. Expensive, slow-charging batteries. LCD has no protective cover.
Summary: I bought one for $480 in Saigon (Ho Chi Minh City) Vietnam. I had been looking at Fujis. The SONY came with a 8.2 MP screen compared with 7.2. The Fuji was $80 cheaper. But it looked better and got rave recommendations.
BOTTOM LINE: The extremely easy-to-use User Interface make it a "BUY" for photographers like myself who want a serious digital camera, but don't want to spend a year learning how to use it.
Pros-
1. 8.2 megapixels. Excellent 400+ mm optical zoom.
2. The user interface is very easy to master. I applaud the designers. Bravo! I perused the manual for 15 minutes. I turned it on. And I found everything I needed.
3. The UI has features that are useful for improving your photography. There are different light settings to bring out or dampen colors and a face-recognition system that locates and sharpens human facial images within a photo image.
Cons -
1. Wide Angle isn't quite wide enough. It's 31mm equivalent. That's not enough.
2. The silver edition is conspicuous to use & ugly. (Black would also be conspicuous. But it wouldn't be as ugly.)
3. LCD has no protective cover. I don't know how I'm going to shield it from damage.
4. The lens hood is ridiculous. It is far larger than the camera. Talk about being conspicuous!!!
5. SONY proprietary batteries for this thing cost around $50 each. I bought a spare battery. SONY should have used AA's or less expensive camera batteries.
6. #5 means that you need a spare $50 battery for a full day's shooting.
7. Batteries take a mind-boggling 4-6 hours to recharge!!!
