"great value, movies not compatible with windows"
Pros: 5x zoom starting at a wide 28mm is great. HD movies look good and file size isn't too bad. Lots of advanced features like smile shutter and automatic scene mode selection.
Cons: Movies record in mp4 format, which can't be viewed in windows movie player or edited in windows movie maker. This seems like a major flaw.
Summary: Good camera for the low price if you don't plan to view the videos in windows photo gallery.
Not as much control over the functions as I'd like. The shutter and zoom buttons are small and hard to push.

You can fix that for free if you go to this site http://www.cocoonsoftware.com/index.php?Itemid=43&id=39&option=com_content&task=view and download the free version of the Quick Media converter. Their best converter is the is the AVI 3GP FLV, but it's $60.00 US dollars and it needs to run while you are not using your computer as it takes a lot of the CPU usage while other programs are running. Cocoonsoftware has great products.Camtasia http://www.techsmith.com/camtasia.asp Has the best!

Does anyone know if this camera or the T700 can be used as a webcam? Thanks.

I have just found out that if you go into Picture Motion Browser and right click on the video there is a option to convert it, if you do click it you can then use it in Windows as a WMV format. Hope this helps =D

It's not a limitation of the camera, it's a limitation of Windows. Because this Cybershot shoots movies in 720p HD format, Windows does not ship with a HD MPEG4 codec. There are plenty available to download (some for free), that will make Windows Media Player (and Movie Maker) work just fine.
Perhaps we should beat Sony up for not providing on on the CD, but equally we should be beating Microsoft up for not providing one either!
Personally this is a OUTSTANDING camera, and Sony should be getting Kudos for making a HD camera not getting criticised. -
I see where you are coming from with MP4 format, just download a converter if you wish to edit it in Windows Movie maker or try downloading another video editing studio that lets you use that format, I know there are tons out there that let you do that, like Sony Vegas, and Adobe Premiere Pro/After Effects CS4. But just look around and you should be in luck.
