Summary I have been using my PS3 to stream media since I cut the cord over 7 months ago. It worked alright, but I wasn't happy I couldn't get Amazon on the PS3, so I switch to the Roku and it meets that need and so much more.
The set up was easy and I was ready to go within 30 mins of opening the box. Amazon instant video and Netflix both stream clear 1080HD. They look gorgeous. Along with Hulu, Amazon and Netflix I was amazed at how many other channels where available. Fox News, CNN, Twit.tv, Revision3, Frogpants Network, Weather, Pandora, NBC, CBS, Disney and so much more. Plus, with private channels, you have the ability to add even more channels. One of the biggest downsides is not being able to get HBOGo to work without a cable subscription. I really would like to pay HBO directly for content without having to have cable.
If you are looking to cut the cable cord and save some money the Roku 2 XD really is one of the best, if not the best, options available.
Pros Size. Ease of set up.
Cons After only 6 wks, unexplained video malfunction that no one in tech support could fix.
Also, HBO Go may be touted in Roku's ads but it is NOT supported by DirecTV or Comcast even if you subscribe to HBO, so no Roku HBO Go for these customers.
Summary After 6 wks, the video portion of the unit stopped working, both as HDMI and composite video. Even Roku tech support couldn't solve the problem. The unit just stopped streaming video. Back it goes. I will not support buying another Roku for the amount of frustration and time trying to fix the problem. Will shop around for something better.
Pros inexpensive and access to a lot of streaming content.
Cons very little live channels. i dont need 200 on demand channels that offer essentially the same sub par 2 min long programming.
Summary do not get this if you are looking to replace your cable. it does not.

Pros Good picture/sound. Easy to set up, easy to use.
Cons Some services unavailable outside US
Summary My only regret is Hulu isn't available in Canada (yet?). Buy this and download the free Plex app, which converts any computer into a streaming video server, which you can access on your Roku, phone/tablet, DLNA enabled TV or BluRay, even iTunes.
I've had no issues with this - probably one of the best tech buys I've made.
Pros I cut cable and saved $30+ per month. It works well and has some great features and services, Netflix, Amazon, NBC News, MLS Soccer are among my favorites.
Cons No Youtube. Most good services require paid subscriptions. Netflix is worth it, but others cut into my savings. I had to turn off all HD features to make it under my Comcast imposed data limits.
Summary I don't mind the sacrifices I made, but you might. Consider the cost. If cutting cable is worth it to you, Roku can help make that happen.
Roku would be better if they would add a live news feed, YouTube, and ESPN3. Get those and I won't feel that I've made any sacrifices at all.
