"Do Not Purchase This Product. Credit Card Required."0.5 starson by JBoyd1
Pros: There are no pros!
Cons: They require a credit card!
Summary: I actually was able to get around the credit card requirement. You have to call customer service 888-600-7658 between 8a-8p M-Sa PST. I was surprised that when I called the rep informed me that this call is part of the "90 day tech support" after which I would have to pay for these "services". I let him know that I didn't want a card "on file" I was only using it for Netflix and free content, and that I was not comfortable with my card "on file" in random places. He said that he understood and proceeded with a script about not being able to post charges to the card without a "PIN"; I responded that it was awesome but I was not interested in giving over a card number for something I've already paid for. He again says that he understood and REPEATS what he just said; again, I politely tell him no thank you and he begins with "rest assured you won't be charged...". At this point I stop him. I ask, can I or can I not set up my ROKU without giving a card. If I cannot then I want an RMA because the product is useless in that case. His demeanor immediately changed...he became very short and said that he would now be happy to assist me. Now mind you that I had already given this guy my email to verify me as a customer when I started the conversation with this rep. He had already confirmed my email, address, phone number and unit serial number. All of a sudden when we were about to close the converstation he repeats my email...he had it totally wrong. I asked him to repeat what he just said and he got upset saying that he'd already "said the email address". I told him that I am the customer and if he can't help me then I want to speak with his supervisor. He repeated my email wrong after I've confirmed it to him about 5 times at this point. These reps are from a foreign call service and have heavy accents - he was acting as if it was my fault. I had him wait while I went online and attempted to log in to my newly created ROKU account. Guess what? I couldn't log in! I told him this and apparently he inputted my email wrong. I told him that I was done with him and I needed a supervisor - the supervisor came on after about 5 mins and went to start with the script, I stopped him, he started again. I stopped him, told him to listen and told him that his rep made a mistake and as a su[pervisor he is responsible now for either making it right or issuing an RMA. The man was able to set up my box and account without a credit card in about 30 secs - I had been putting up with the other jerk for about 20 mins, when all along they could have done it in seconds. It seems like they use the card info for marketing - even though they won't charge they probably farm data and sell lists to other companies. The unit is great, just beware you may have to put up with nonsense if you don't want to give them your credit card info.
