"Good Concept, needs work."
2.5 starson by PumanyPros: music quality, no wires!
Cons: software, configuration, speed
Summary: This little gizmo allows you to wirelessly stream (using wifi) audio from your computer to your stereo. Its quite small and plugs directly into the proprietary port on sony receivers. The display is too small to read from a distance, and can't display long enough song titles.
The software (the updated version from the SONY website) still needs work. Its slow, and it requires some overhead on your computer. Scrolling through songs using the IR remote is painfully slow if you have even a medium sized music collection, say 1000 songs. There is no search feature using the remote. Also, the software wouldn't allow my laptop to standby or hibernate without shutting down/exiting the program.
One cool concept it has is party mode. It allows you to connect two of the devices together in different rooms to stream the same music. I have not tried it, but you'd need to have to sony music systems to do this.
Configuration difficulty of the unit is not bad, but the manual is lacking and if you have problems, the website has no knowledge base so good luck!
The unit is too expensive for what you get. You are better off with apple tv or even a bluetooth music streamer. If you can get it at a low price and you don't mind leaving your computer running all the time, then you might consider it, but you'll never love it.
