"Great in theory, buggy software, bad at large sets"
2.0 starson by SamuraiPenguinPros: Wireless, web based management interface
Cons: Constant wireless drops, requiring hard reboot of frame. Flickr streaming very buggy, doesn't randomize
Summary: I had high hopes for this, been waiting for a wireless frame that could just pull random pix from my collections and all of my friends and family's sets on flickr so I'd have one place to manage and display images. While there are some nice side features that are interesting to play with (FrameChannel add'l content like weather etc.) the main purpose to having this isn't really delivered well. The main problem i'm having 3-4 days out of the box is the wireless connection just drops every 4-5 hours, even though numerous other devices i have stay connected both wired and wireless. The only fix is to reboot the frame.
Flickr seems to get stuck in loops where it will only show 3-4 pictures from a feed, and there is no way I can find to randomize it. FrameChannel seems to work much better at streaming Flickr than the Flickr integration (at least for your own stream, support for other contacts is missing), but also comes with some annoying advertisement content. I got one of these for a friend at the same time, we'll see if they have the same problems.
Another minor annoyance was the Easy Share software did not behave the way the printed or online documentation instructed for connecting to the frame's web service configuration tool, i had to login to my router to determine its IP address.
I have an email support request into Kodak on the connection constantly dropping and have had no response in 2 days.
I haven't used the memory card method yet, as I really can't be bothered maintaining yet another inventory of digital photos, so no comment on that part (although if you go that route, there are probably cheaper and better frames). I really primarily wanted a connected frame to get constant updates on friends' pictures automagically showing up every day, and so far am very disappointed.
Bottom line: Based on my experience, I would recommend waiting on this particular frame if you're looking for a good connected photo sharing frame, I really hope they can fix the wireless issues with firmware upgrades.
