"As an internet radio, it doesn't work"0.5 starson by jb1947
Pros: Design is good -- that's all
Cons: No way to set it up -- I tried with 2 radios, one after the other.
Summary: This COBY Internet Radio 850 doesn't work, as an internet radio. Period.
This internet radio came on the market, and at J&R, this week: 4-10 May 2009.
I was waiting for it, since I am a big fan of intenet radios. The advertized features and price were attractive. I bought it yesterday Friday 8 May at J&R in Manhattan. Thereafter, I spent 2 hours trying to set it up. No success. It simply doesn't work.
I returned the item the next day -- today Sat -- and asked for another unit, just in case I had been unlucky with the 1st one.
Same problems with the 2nd unit.
So, I am returning the 2nd unit of this radio to the shop for a full refund, and NO REPLACEMENT by any COBY internet radio. It is a joke.
Now, what is the problem?
1) It takes at leat 10 minutes to get a question about the wireless "key" (WEP/WPA), but, ultimately, it does get that, but it is painful;
From thereafter, what you get at any step are constant messages like: "NETWORK ERROR; TRY AGAIN LATER", and then:"NETWORK TIMEOUT" , and this can go on and on at every step of the setting, which can take more than 2 hours.
The bottom line: this radio is a joke. DON'T SPEND ANY OF YOUR MONEY ON IT. YOU WILL REGRET IT DEARLY.
PS. I will return the 2nd radio to J&R on Monday 11 April, to get a full refund.
