    "The best DVR!!!!" on

Pros: I have this unit and based on recommendations from others I bought a Tivo for my mom. Now that I have had time to be familiar with both I am so happy I have a ReplayTV instead of a Tivo! The ReplayTV responds much faster to commands from the remote, has

Cons: Once in 2 years the unit became unresponsive to the remote and I had to go to the online FAQ where it told me to just reboot it. After that it has performed perfectly.

"Everything you need in a DVR" on

Pros: I've had a ReplayTv for a little over 2 years. It's easy to use, and has all the features that the other companies are announcing. But it also skips commericals. I bought a second system last month, and was amazed that it was so easy to network. There is

"Buy TIVO Instead" on by hotdogg1boy

Pros: There is NO Pros for this company

Cons: See below because I have lots to say

Summary: I got this machine from a friend and it's been a nightmare even with tech support. You have to pay for the phone call and the first time I called, Tech support couldn't help and instead of transferring me I got hung-up on. Second time which was today the same thing happened. Machine is stuck in a loop which I can't get out of. Machine is stuck in Network setup and can't be changed back to dial-up. Machine calls Oregon for updates when I live in CA and I can't change it. Machine tries to call at night for updates and gets stuck until I unplug it in the morning. I've been working on these problems off and on for over 2 weeks. BTW, I am tech savvy. I work for a television station (equip. support) and I've also done computer repair for customers so I can usually figure things out.

"Far superior to Tivo" on by richardlightfoot

Pros: The company isn't afraid of hacks. I am able to network my replay to my home computer, take video off it, and burn to CD or take with me on my laptop for trips. It networks great. I own three.

Cons: Does not have ability to play music

Summary: I used to own a Tivo. Sold it and bought this. I am much happier with my replay. Better customer support. Cheaper in the long run (buy the lifetime membership). Great for networking.
