"best product, great price" on
Pros: there are no other DVRs that have as many features as the replaytv. I have been shopping around for good prices, and I found some on eBay. there is a good seller called "replaytvdirect" that includes free lifetime service. You can also find them at www

"Replay TV outperforms other PVR's" on
Summary: I have 3 Replay TV units in my home all linked together via my computer broadband network. The best features of the Replay Units are the ability to watch programs recorded on units in other rooms. I can also share programs with other people who have Replay TV units. The Replay TV also allows you to program your replay TV from anywhere in the world with Internet access via the www.myreplaytv.com website. The Replay TV automatically changes the channels on my digital cable box. With VCRs, I had to leave the cable box on the channel I was recording and had to wait for the recording to complete before I could watch it. With Replay TV, you can start watching from the beginning while continuing to record. You can watch a recorded program while recording another show. You can also skip most commercials. All of this without videotapes. I can record up to 320, 80 and 40 hours on the units I have. You can also pause and rewind live TV. The channel guide on the Replay TV units are 12 days and much better than the one from my cable company. There is also software that allows you to download Shows to your computer (DVArchive 2.0) from the Replay TV units. I use this feature to burn programs onto DVD for permanent storage. I chose Replay TV over Tivo because Replay had better features. I am %110 satisfied with Replay TV units.

"Worst customer service: save yourself!" on
Summary: The unit actually works much better than previous models, but it still locks up periodically, and records the wrong program in a scheduling conflict (it detects the conflict, but records the program you DIDN'T select). My experience with their customer service was a nightmare! I activated it with their monthly service--took about a week for them to get it done. Decided I'd keep it despite it's flaws, so I tried to convert it to lifetime activation on 1/30. They told me it would take them 48 hours to complete the activation. As of 2/7 they still hadn't activated it, even after billing my credit card. There are more details, but suffice it to say they are probably the most incompetent company in this country.

"replaytv = nightmare" on
Summary: My experience with Replay. I purchased a unit from J&R Music World right before christmas. J&R themselves did a great job - effecient site, quick delivery, no hassles. A few days ago, however, I went to activate the service for my Replay unit. My experience has been awful - my advice: DO NOT buy a replaytv unit. It is not worth the hassle. In the last three days I have: 1. Tried to activate the unit on the soniceblue website 5 times. Each time their web site says the credit card for my address is not correct and they won't activate the unit. However, my bank reports that the address is fine, and even better - that sonicblue has successfully charged my credit card 5 times for the full fee despite saying the charge did not go through. So I've paid $45 and have no service. 2. Tried to email them for support. They send back an automated (and worthless) reply but have not replied, removed charges, activated my unit, or done anything whatsoever. 3. Tried calling them for support. When you actually get past the busy signals, they never answer. I've been on hold over an hour repeatedly. I'm on hold right now - and have been on hold for one hour and 40 minutes. They have, quite simply, the worst customer service I've experienced in the last 10 years. Again, unless you want to risk having significant hassles, wasted time, overcharged credit cards, and a non-working non-activated unit, I'd avoid ReplayTV.
