Pros: Robust With a Great Interface
Cons: You have to deal with DirecTV's customer service
Summary: Most of the negative opinions on here relate to the differences between this product and Tivo. While a Tivo it's not, this DVR from DirecTV is, in my opinion, better.
When the unit was first released, it had more than a fair share of bugs. But in the past 9 months, with the automatic technical updates, this product has become a lean, mean recording machine.
For starters, it can record two programs at once. In addition, it stores 100 hours of shows! That's more than double many cable DVRs. And, you can continue to watch TV in a reduced window while you're browsing the Guide (something you can't do in Tivo).
There is a 30-second skip and a 6-second backflip. The unit is quiet (much, much more quiet than the quietest Tivo I've heard).
Don't be fooled by the negative reviews by Tivo purists. This unit, as it stands today, is one of the best DVRs on the market.
