"Worst programmed product in history"1.0 starson by delawaredan
Pros: large hard drive
Cons: confusing, overly complicated, slow. horrible remote control
Summary: I purchased the R15 to replace an old Directv DVR that died. I’ve regretted it since.
This is my third DVR, so I’m no novice, but this is the most confusing piece of equipment I’ve ever owned. What was quick and intuitive in earlier versions in overly complex and confusing in this model. For example, it takes two steps to bring up the program guide (instead of just pressing the guide button – like any other unit) and setting up a season pass has more steps than launching the space shuttle.
And don’t get me started on the remote control! It’s huge, not ergonomic, and full of tiny buttons. Including several unlabeled colored mystery button and SEPARATE TV Power On and TV Power Off buttons (where’s the logic in that?? No TV even has separate buttons).
It’s as if the designers never used a DVR or TIVO or even operated a TV before.
TIVO is awesome. You should enjoy it instead of this piece of junk.
Directv should be embarrassed (but they're probably not).
