    "Do not buy this product"

    by Jumper42 on April 13, 2006

Pros: MPEG-4 is the only good thing here

    Cons: over heats contastly

Summary: DO NOT BUY THIS PIECE OF CRAP! I have had nothing but headaches with this equipment and Dish Network in general. I have gone 3 through 622s and all had the same problem, they all over heat. This box runs super hot to where it can almost burn your hand. First i had the box in my cabinet, that is well ventilated, with my receiver and xbox 360. All seemed great but after just 45 minutes of watching TV a screen would appear saying the box is running to hot and I need to unplug it to have it cooled off. Next I took it out of the cabinet and put it on a shelf that was completely open; now it only over heats every 90 minutes. I called Dish and they would send me a replacement VIP 622 "free" of charge. Well I received the new box with in 5 days and sent the old one back and guess what it still over heated. Heck this thing would over heat in a blizzard and Dish was so "kind" to charge me again, $300, for this. Talked to dish again about the problem with the box and they said the would ship another replacement, and yes they have charged me another $300 for this replacement even though it is supposed to free since it is a replacement. The only saving grace in all of this is the people at sprint they have put my ONE MONTH BILL of over $1000 in dispute. I have cancelled my dish network as of 4-11-06 and tried to ask for a refund on this equipment since it has never worked which they refuse to but I have to return the box or they will charge me the full amount for the box. I have put up with Dish for 7 weeks and thank god the local cable company is now in our area so these guys no longer have me buy the short and curlies. I would tell anyone interested in Dish not to do it, unless you are into S&M.

We are considering a class action lawsuit for these problems. vltrnjd@yahoo.com

Computer chips are notorious for being susceptible to heat extremes. Some chips become unstable after being cooked. We haven't had a problem. This is our second DVR from Dish and we've had the first one for about 5 years now with no problem.

DO NOT BELIVE ONE MAN'S OPINION. I do lease a vip622 and work for Dish Network for over four years. I have handled thousands of technical issues from many customers such as Jumper42, as technical service representive and now a supervisor. Just like any electronic equipment it may **********, but there are warranties available. Lets face it, it is a man made device so it is not perfect. We do offer plenty of options for replacing equipment, in most cases better than replacing other eletronic companies (i.e. Xbox replacement, Circuit City tv replacement). These I can say from my own experience. Jumper42 was more than likely charged for the equipment for not being returned in a timely manner (30+ days) or customer damage. Personally, I would like to review his account to find out. As for my leased vip622, I have never had the receiver replaced. Neither have hundreds of other customers that I have spoken to over the years. I had the receiver for 2 years and never had any major problem other than the occasional reset just like any other electronic device. Based on my experience, people may have one issue with a company and they will find many other small details that will reinforce their opinion.

I have had this same DVR for about 6 months and have not had 1 problem. I have been with Dish Network for about 4 years and have no complaints. No company is perfect and you can't please everybody, but this sounds like the exception not the rule. I love My 622.

Since I ordered my 622 a year ago, I have had three of them quit working. I am now awaiting unit #4. Each one has run perfectly for 4 months, then the processor gets corrupted and the units crash permanently. I am damned glad I bought the extended warranty on this piece of trash. Should have gone with Tivo. But with the pending lawsuit by Tivo against Dish, I may end up with one anyway. BUY ANY OTHER DVR!

The 622 is as close to flawless as you can find in a HD-DVR. Sounds like this guy had a problem with his electrical circuitry which caused the receiver to overheat. It's his loss. Dish Network is the best TV service available in the USA today.

I've had Dish for three years now, and needed equipment replacement twice. Both times their customer service people were extremely friendly, and I had my new equipment with no problems and no charges within a few days. I even had ordered a Pay Per View Sports event that was interrupted due to a power outage in my neighborhood, and they refunded my money with no problems even though it had nothing to do with them.

I do NOT have this unit, I'm only speaking on the customer service aspect.
