"VERY BAD product & experience - simple.TV is USELESS!"0.5 starson by puicac
Pros: NONE, IS SIMPLE USELESS IN MY EXPERIENCE!
Cons: PC Image is of a much less quality.
ROKU is freezing trying presenting simple.tv
Repeated requests to reformat the HD (need to buy separate)
Simple.TV is useless, NO ADVANTAGE or new channels to existing on-line, through ROKU and free-over-the-air!
Summary: Simple.TV random itself useless bringing ABSOLUTELY NO ADVANTAGE or new channels to the actual existing options I already have on line, through ROKU and free over the air!
Sorry to say, but I got a VERY BAD EXPERIENCE with simple.tv!
The same, I was initially very excited about simple.tv after CES 2012 credit and CNET very positive posting, so than I put my money for one simple.tv plus a one year premium service in advance.
Payment processed through Amazon one month later on July 29, 2012 (Amazon has 90 days money back policy).
I received the simple.tv after 104 days, asking me to buy my own external USB hard drive, eh inconvenient, but so I did quickly still exited and enthusiastic based on the CNET award review ( I continue to trust CNET, A LOT!), plus the CES 2012 ... (it was a mistake)
Then I plug it in and was keeping asking reformatting the HD!
I contacted them and they assign me the REPAIR CASE # 1211 but in the end, they (simple.tv) did absolutely nothing to fix it.
Initially, James, a simple.tv moderator stated that as an excuse:
"In our defense we are so busy (as a small startup company) that it's impossible to get to every question ..."
After few good hours of struggling, I was able to get it working sluggishly, and further got the image on my PC of a very
low quality (a long way from regular HD) while ROKU was freezing trying to display the signal, so this was when it got serious and I posted my experience on their indicated forums for other users to know.
One moderator stated to another client that our payments was technically a donation, and so is NON-reimburasable ..etc.
Than simple.tv moderators deleted all my postings under the reason that it was "abusive", that after several of their associates posted against me with racist remarks that I am writing like a Nigerian hacker and other insulting associations unbearable for me that I invested my money to support their project before they even existed ...etc.
I was looking at their return link and it was a bogus link as other client also noticed it!
This is what I emailed to the only way available to contact simple.tv through tech. support email (no phone # or physical address! - spooky):
Yesterday I was able to activate this new beta simple.TV (after got assign the REPAIR CASE # 1211) and today I decided that there is of no use, because of these minimum reasons:
1. Image on the PC is of a less quality despite of a 900Mbs dual (2.4GHz & 5 GHz) wireless excellent connection.
2. ROKU is freezing trying to present simple.tv
3. Repeated requests to reformat the HD after other previous simple.TV recordings.
4. Simple.TV random itself useless bringing ABSOLUTELY NO ADVANTAGE or new channels to the actual existing options I already have on line, through ROKU and free over the air!
Even for when it will work good enough to be acceptable, I should CLEARLY mention one more time that the main reason again is that:
Simple.TV random itself useless bringing ABSOLUTELY NO ADVANTAGE or new channels to the actual existing options I already have on line, through ROKU and free over the air!
I will sent it back as I have no more time & money for your project, please refund now!
"Also your instructions about how to contact you for refund are not possible to follow leading to another website that has no data about you and asking to make a profile and then log in with them leading to other commitments ...!"
You know very well that, your indicated contact avenue is misleading and is part of your planned wrapping tactics (and your present and upcoming customers need to know that!): "support.simple.tv".
First, they merged topics to minimize the impact and further even removed all my postings and block my two accounts from posting!
They deleted my postings so their potential future customers (and other early supporters like me) cannot see what their product random useless doing absolutely nothing!
I sent it back in 48 hours from received, in exactly as received condition through Priority Mail with Confirmation, I contacted Amazon for refund, and they said that it was past their 90 days policy and they can do nothing, and other Amazon is follows:
"Thank you for contacting Amazon Payments--I'm sorry for the concern you've experienced in regards to your
transaction with Kickstarter for the project, Cut The Cord with the Simple TV DVR by Simple TV.
Simple TV has not issued any refunds to your account. Since Amazon Payments only processes the payment on behalf of Kickstarter project creators, we're not able to issue a refund on Simple TV's behalf. However, you can contact Simple TV to see if they're able to issue you a refund for the transaction."
"However, after looking at this transaction, I see you aren't eligible for reimbursement under the terms of our Amazon Payments Buyer Dispute Program because your transaction was initiated more than 90 days ago. Unfortunately, I'm unable to take further action to resolve this on your behalf.

I am sorry we are not able to assist further. We hope to see you again soon."
I continue to be very persistent and keep contacting Amazon through all possible means, explaining that they sent the item after 105 days (specially to be over Amazon 90 days return policy) and finally Amazon refund yesterday my $150 that I almost considered invested in my own credulous hopeless stupidity!
In the end, I am sorry that I was compiled to post my bad experience with simple.tv, so to let others know before their would eventually make their mind to buy it (there are online available DVR PC Cards 10 times much cheaper alternative, see other postings as Win 7 through Windows Media Center is a subscription free DVR solution.).
Very, but VERY Disappointed Customer,
