    "Ordered one today!"

Pros: Finally! 2-tuner HD and CableCARD

Cons: not cheap and no more lifetime service!

Summary: I've been waiting forever for this unit. I bought a SXRD HDTV late last year and sadly view little HD content since everything I watch is on my TiVo. I ordered a Series3 today! Finally HD TiVo and CableCARD support. Can't wait. It's not cheap but should be everything any TiVo user wants in HD -- and it is replacing two SD TiVos for me (that I've had at least 5 years!) with the dual tuner support. Now if only TiVo offered lifetime service for this unit!

Hey, FYI if you subscribe before Dec31 this year you can transfer one of your lifetime scrips if you had it on an existing sd model.

My Series 2 TiVo just got an update and told me my lifetime subscription could be transferred to a new, Series 3 box. You should check into that if you haven't already.

    FWIW...

$800 (!!!) is a helluva price to pay, and even with the lifetime product subscription transfer, I don't think this upgrade is worth it until the price comes down. For $800, there are many inexpensive do-it-yourself computer setups that can do everything a TiVo series 3 does (including record in HD on 2 tuners)...you just need a little know-how to save some money -- savings probably in the range of about $300-$400.

I received a email from Tivo regarding the new HD Tivo. They are offering VIP pricing to existing subsribers (at least ones that had paid for lifetime service). If you purchase the HD box from Tivo they will transfer your lifetime service from a box you currently own to the HD box for $199. The will also continue to give you service on your old box for an additional year for free.

Doogie69 - you should make sure you get this promo!
