Great, especially for DVD'sby - April 26, 2003
Pros:
Cons:
Review: Great picture. Extremely flat screen. 480p conversion for cable input seems to be easier on the eyes, and is more stable. (Compared to old tv, noticed stability of lines on a tennis court.) Nice PIP feature with the 182 code. I use VCR for 2nd screen, for safe commercial surfing

DVD's are very sharp, especially widescreen DVD's. Much better than on a low res TV. I just told my DVD player that my TV is a widescreen 480p set. (Still need to press the WIDE button on TV remote.) I avoid the cycle-thru for TV/VCR input by using PIP. To switch from cable to vcr, I hit PIP,Swap,PIP. You can hit buttons quickly and the TV will catch up. You could hit the TV/Video button 4 times quickly (but not too quick) and cycle thru fast. PIP/Swap/PIP can be pressed fast as my thumb will go. Not many negatives. You can often see the pixel grid, even though the pixels are tiny. Worse than on my lousy old TV. Even with 480p, there's some flash/strobe, but I'm comparing to LCD. I haven't noticed a CRT TV that's better. Wish list: Adjust the volume output to the RCA jacks with TV remote. Get rid of the brief display "MTS: Stereo Signal: Stereo+SAP" in bottom left of screen. Anyone know what ACS or AGC are on the service menu? I wonder if anything there is a bad idea to play with. Saw something in google search on ACS demagnification, which I think you're only supposed to do occasionally. email: Zjukxx@yahooZ.com, without the Z's.

Excellent TV-Especially after you unlock it!by - April 15, 2003
Pros:
Cons:
Review: I have had this TV for a week and I love it. The unit has scan line doubling circuitry so it makes even standard broadcast stations much crisper. Because it does this you don?t necessarily need a progressive scan DVD; the TV converts incoming 480i signals to 480p automatically! The image is great especially after you unlock all of the added features in the service menu. After spending many hours playing with the various settings, I have the TV the way I want it. It has an amazing array of fine-tuning adjustments to compensate for just about any display anomaly. If you are familiar with the adjustments for a computer monitor, imagine 10 times the level of control. There are separate video geometry adjustments for each of the supported picture formats (normal TV ?480i, Progressive Scan ? 480p, and HiDef-1080i). One thing I have noticed about the unlock code is that it only works once per power up. If you want to get into the service menu again, you will have to unplug the TV and wait 5-10 seconds or so before powering up and pressing the Power-Mute-1-8-2-Power button sequence on the remote. If you get into trouble with the settings, fear not, there is a reset feature in the service menu. You will loose all of your settings but at least you can start again from square one. In a previous review someone mentioned the black and white mode they got stuck in, I believe that it is because they enabled the 3-D Comb feature that does not work properly. To get out of this, use the above procedure and just reset your settings to the defaults. Recommend settings: 1) PIP ON ? Good thing to have if you have two non-component inputs. 2) Turbo Sound ? Boosts the treble and bass for the speakers. If connecting to stereo using audio out this is a moot feature. 3) Reduce the base brightness. The best viewing mode for poor video sources (i.e. most of my cable providers channels) is in movie mode. This cleans up a lot of the pixel artifacts but also makes the picture too light. Changing the base brightness helps with this. 4) Get a reference DVD with test patterns and color pages and adjust the picture settings accordingly. 5) 3-D Comb filter ?OFF ? On my set it does nothing but make the picture grainy and monochrome. Other minor complaints I have with the TV: 1) There are no S-Video inputs in the rear. The only one is on the side in the very front which is very visible and unusable if you are space constrained in an entertainment center. 2) There is no way to directly select the video source by a single button press (e.g. component1, AV1, Ant1, etc.). You have to cycle through the various sources and you have no way of knowing where in the cycle starts on power up. This makes programming macros into my Sony universal remote impossible. 3) PIP is not available using component inputs. 4) The PIP mode will show the video for the Cable and one of the AV inputs only if the Cable is the primary screen. If you swap the pictures, the Cable window goes black.

Unlock Works! Couple more questions pleaseby - March 29, 2003
Pros:
Cons:
Review: Just got this TV and love it-the unlock feature works! 2 questions for those who have owned this for awhile please: 1. How do you get PIP to work when you're controlling the channels from a cable box? 2. I'm getting some sound feedback on the tv itself when the video source is on mute-any suggestions. Thanks to this forum! Enjoy this tv

The Unlock Works.by - March 9, 2003
Pros:
Cons:
Review: Happy Owner was right, but you have to put in the code before the TV even gives a picture. Turn it on, and as soon as the power indicator led turns on, press MUTE, 1, 8, 2, and Power again before the screen even turne on. Then it'll turn on with a system menu. Access the Options menu to turn on all of the features. Note that some features turn off other features, for instance BBE sound will turn off Turbo Sound. Enjoy your new features!
