"Four years, then KAPUT!"
Pros: Great performance, while it worked
Cons: Short life, for a $2000 television
Summary: After three years, started shutting down randomly (once a month or so). Progressed to the point where after four years, it would not stay on for more than thirty seconds. Sony Authorized repair people can not get replacement parts to fix, so now it is a 200-pound boat anchor. I will likely avoid Sony products in the future, considering their poor performance and support on this one.

Mine lasted 6 years. Cost $2K in 2003. The picture and sound were great wihle it lasted and I didn't even get it calibrated. Noone told me about "calibration" when I bought it. Maybe I missed out on a lot these past 6 years. The picture quality WAS much better in the store, come to think of it but I wrote that off to the "secret things" that stores probably did to make their TV pics look better in the store so you would buy it. LOL
Compared to today's LCD and Plasma HD TVs, this thing is a monster, weighing over 200 lbs. I never had any problems with it until now and it won't turn on all of the time. The TV repair people can't find the problem bec it turns on fine when it it at the shop. So now I keep it on all of the time so I can watch TV when I want to. Pathetic.
Needless to say, I am buying a new TV and it ain't a Sony. Now I have to get 2 strong men to move this dinosaur somewhere. Using it as a boat anchor is an excellent idea! -
4yrs later and it will not turn on, this is the 2nd Sony video product that has been a complete pile of junk. DVD player lasted for about 25movies over 2yrs. Over priced and Overrated. Only the Play Stations have been worth the plastic they are made from.

I was hoping to find a solution to repairing my Sony . What a shame so many people have experienced the same unsolvable problem with such an expensive product . I still have one of the first push button T.V.s from the 80's and it works great. I feel ripped off !
