The Bottom Line	MSN Search Toolbar with Windows Desktop Search is a must-have app for die-hard Microsoft fans, adding metadata desktop search and tabbed browsing to IE.	While it doesn't search the Internet, Copernic Desktop Search locates all file types on your hard drive and offers a pleasing interface.	Google Desktop Search is a slick and speedy search tool for finding information on your hard drive. It lacks a file viewer and media player but is very fast and easy to use.	This standalone desktop search tool, X1 Search, is blazingly fast but costs about $100 more than the nearest competitor. In our opinion, the free apps perform just as well.	MSN's fair-to-middling toolbar lags well behind its still competition, but its one-of-a-kind highlighter viewer wins an honorable mention.
