Pros: Easy install, reasonably reliable, few issues while on.
Cons: Customer service is real BAD! If you need help your screwed.
Summary: I have used Earthlink for 8 years and had very few problems overall. The install was very easy (self-install 8 years ago). The speed was never as good as advertised, but good enough to not complain. Eight years ago they were the only place where I could get a Static IP so I could work from home.
Now, eight years later AT&T is in town with better pricing overall. So I switch and so far am happy with AT&T. I call Earthlink to tell them thank you but I'm done, turn it off. The usual "But Wait..." kind of things and then! If I cancel now there will be an *Early Termination Fee* that is equal to about three months of service. WHAT! Did I mention I have had the service for about eight years now? What could possibly be ?early? about my termination of service?
And did I mention that the very nice lady on the other end of this conversation had to say everything twice because I couldn't understand her because of her accent?
If your looking at Earthlink, keep looking. If you have a clue and don't expect to ever need to call for help you'll be OK. And go ahead and bank about three months of your cost because no matter how long you are connected they are going to hit you with a termination fee.
