"DOES NOT BURN DVD-R GOOD"
Pros: Works well with High price DVD+R etc... but not the cheap ones
Cons: This product DOES NOT burn DVD-R media very well. I have always been using Prodisc DVD-R discs but this burner cannot burn onto Prodisc DVD-R x4 media and many other DVD-R disks [as of FW B7S9]... Now I have to buy much more expensive dvds to get a good c

This drive does perform to advertised specs.
The approved media list published by BENQ is not to be trusted... The company's attitude is you bought it- you own it - tough. Claims that only silver dye media will work. Tried expensive Verbatim-R's and still no success.
Defective product at best. Avoid at all cost. -
O agree. I have now about 20 Postore DVD-R 4X discs with no use. I asked BENQ if they were to include this kind of disk in a future update. They answared me that they are not going to update the firmware to old 4x discs and urge me to buy only 8x discs in the future.

I had the same experience. Using firmware B7S9 and B7V9 this drive turned Taiyo Yuden and Ritek G05 -R media into coasters. I gave up on it and replaced it with a Pioneer - DVR109 - which is an excellent drive for DVD-R.
