"The Sony 510A is not reliable"
Pros: Sometimes it works.
Cons: Most of the time I burn coasters (DVD use). I have read enough comments on the Internet to say this is a product "not ready for prime time". The average computer user will be overwhelmed with the shortcomings. Sony support's answer is that the problem

"DVD-R SCORE 1-GOOD 6-COASTERS"
Pros: Since it doesn't work reliably, there aren't any.
Cons: Not what I expected from Sony. Will definatly think twice before next purchase. VERY UNRELIABLE.

"Works fine, but DIED after 2 months"
Pros: The drive works very well, that is until it dies on you. Installation was simple. Writing to discs was no hassle with the bundled software.
Cons: After ONLY using the drive for less than 2 months, it crapped out on me. ***? I'd expect better from Sony. Was using drive to backup HDD. Then all of a sudden, it just spit back out the CD. It wouldn't read or write to any discs. Insert a disc and all it

"Stopped burning DVD after 10 disks"
Pros: theoretically multi-format
Cons: worked with DVD-R and -R/W, but first stopped working with rewritable, then with write once. tried win98se and winXPpro, nothing helped.
