"Worked great until it died"
Pros: Fast, accurate, quiet
Cons: Died after 9 months of light use
Summary: I should have read the opinions before I paid for this drive. I have the same complaint as many others - after a while the unit stopped reading/burning DVD's. Now, will not even recognize a disk in the drive. Makes an expensive doorstop. Is this the "Old Sony" planned obsolesence from the 1970's-1980's?

I have just discovered my DRU-510A sony garbage burner quit reading and writing, and does not even recognize any disk. I paid over $220.00 for this piece of garbage. I wrote about 6 disks in a year. This is not only poor quality, but down right thievery.
I have a sony camera, that I paid over $600.00 for, and three months later it broke. The warranty for this and only this camera (finding out later) was 3 months. Low and behold, in the forth month it lost its auto focus. This cost me an additional $200.00 to fix, plus shipping and handling. SONY, YOU ARE THE RIP OFFS OF ALL RIP OFFS. I will never buy sony again in my life. NEVER
I would expect they would have a free fix for this DVD burner concidering how many of them broke in a year or less. Court by the consumer comes to mind. -
I had a unit that came with the Sony
software disc Rev. 3.91w.
I was burning a CD and then the unit stopped working. It lasted less than 6 months.
In the scope of the persisten failure of this model, would it be reasonable to ask for a refund for it ?
Thanks
