Pros: with rebate it was a good price at the time
Cons: according to sony, i can't have two dvd burners in my desktop at the same time. and this burner is producing pixelated dvds. speed is reduced bc sony recommends us going in PIO mode rather than ultra dma to avoid errors...

"A good drive, but it has its flaws"
Pros: A good drive, which does what it says on the box.
Cons: If it fails because of the data buffer being empty, the drive crashes and only a power reboot can recover it. Also, I'm on my second, as the first one burned disks that became unreadable towards the outside edge of the disc.

Pros: Once you do the firmware 06 upgrade and find out what media works everything is great! Tried HP disks without firmware update, and got lotsa coasters. Originally I thought it was the DVDRW, but as I began to read forums I noticed Verbatim disks are comp

Pros: Fast and easy software set. Who can beat that Dual Layer, I want Gigs!
Cons: I've tried 2 of these DRU-170A and they are both have problems. I tried to burn DVD+RW and CD+RW. Nero says Communication Error, Lead-In Lead-Out. But I can play any CD or DVD. Go to Sony web site and suggestion is try change the DMA and PIO on 1st and 2

Pros: The price and quality are superb. I picked mine up for $99.00 at a popular on-line store. Super reliable and fast for single layer DVD media.
Cons: Somewhat slow and not as reliable on dual layer burning which can get expensive. It pays to get some good software.
