"DOES NOT BURN DVD-R GOOD" on
Pros: Works well with High price DVD+R etc... but not the cheap ones
Cons: This product DOES NOT burn DVD-R media very well. I have always been using Prodisc DVD-R discs but this burner cannot burn onto Prodisc DVD-R x4 media and many other DVD-R disks [as of FW B7S9]... Now I have to buy much more expensive dvds to get a good c

"Good DVD Drive, Handles Most Task" on by gbtman2
Pros: Fast burning, Works with most DVD-R/+Rs I've tried
Cons: I've had some issues with DVD+/-RW Discs. Some consistancy issues with the drive reading/writing to some discs created/burned on other Burners (such as NEC).
Summary: Overall, I like the BenQ 1620. I now own 3 of them. I also own 2 NEC 2500As. I got the 1st BenQ because I got it at a good price and I wanted to have a Burner that would create DL DVDs. It worked so well, I bought another. A few days ago I bought a 3rd one, even though the faster DL drives are now hitting the market (and even DL-R drives), the low BenQ price and overall good performance I've had, has kept me loyal to this drive.

Pros: A very fast DVD burner that covers all media formats out today. By far the best bang for the buck.
Cons: You will most likely have to update the firmware if you want to be able to use this drive. They say you can burn a full length DVD in under 6 minutes. I used 8x verbatim media to test this, but it took around 7 minutes, which is still not bad. The BenQ

"Worked well, but when warranty service needed..." on by poto63
Pros: Fast burning speed
Cons: Died, but while under warranty
Summary: When it works, it works great, but trying to get factory support for warranty is difficult... I could raise a family from birth to college graduation while waiting to get through on the help line or get an email response.

"Garbage, refuses to work and tech support can't fix it" on by skyknites
Pros: Cheap, Good coffee holder if the tray decides to open
Cons: You get what ya pay for
Summary: After 2 months with tech support, 3 drives, it still wont work. And aparently after searching the web its a common problem. Do yourself a favor and kick out a few extra bucks for a trouble free drive
