"very unreliable burner"
1.0 starson by Jordan KatzPros: sometimes it actually burns and verifies successfully
Cons: so much of the time it doesn't work
Summary: I've had nothing but headaches with this burner. I have had so many burns fail I don't keep count any more. I talked to technical support at length and they sent me a new unit. No better. I bought the fancy version of Toast. No difference. I bought fancier supposedly higher quality DVD's... no improvement. This thing fails on about 1 in 3 burns, and it happens either during the burn or during the verification step. There is no rhyme or reason to it... I try the burn again, and it works... or it doesn't.... and then I try again and it does. And I'm not even burning a high speeds. It fails often at 2x! Other burners I've used just work and work almost all the time. Okay, sometimes a burner fails due to a glitch or bad disc, but this one is just a piece of junk. If you want to waste a lot of time and throw out a lot of DVD's, buy this model for sure! Oh yeah, and those double layer DVD's... good luck!

I read a similar review, from 2005. But I thought that maybe LaCie had cleaned up its act since then. Jordan Katz's review showed me - no, it's still a lemon. This helped me decide not to purchase this drive, despite falling prices. It also makes me very skeptical of all the rave reviews out there, for this and other products. Manufacturer pays reviewers to overlook the problems? Thanks Stephanie!<br>http://www.epinions.com/LaCie_16x_DVD_DL_w_Lightscribe_300949/display_~reviews
