"CNET, you're wrong again"
on by hooglerPros Fast burner, good company, LIGHTSCRIBE ?!??!
Cons CNET's rediculous rating
Summary Pros: charged tech support? and Poor Video-editing software???? GIVE ME A BREAK.
you said, quote: " fortunately, installation is as simple as powering up the drive and attaching the FireWire or USB cable to the host PC" WHY DOES ANYTONE CARE ABOUT TECH SUPPORT. Maybe back in the days before every single company on earth had tech support online... nobody calls in anymore. Poor video-editing software?? If you said "This product is perfect for: The SOHO multimedia person" why would they even use the included v-e software. CNET, you need some new reviewers. I've owned a lightscribe drive for a few weeks now and i use it on my mac, i have no complaints and it sure beats trying to accuratly put labels, that dont stay on and do fade, everytime. The main reason anyone would buy this drive is for the LIGHTSCRIBE FEATURE, which works flawless. Go review a thumbdrive or something brainless, Stephen Bigelow. Your review was pointless and obviously wrote with the words of a biased POV. -
"I LOVE IT!!!"
on by MEHLANIPros BURNED AUDIO DISC <5 MIN. GREAT DESIGN, FIREWIRE AND USB A PLUS!!
Cons TAKES A LITTLE LONG TO DO THE LIGHTSCRIBE
Summary So far I love this burner. I got it for my Dell laptop that was missing the docking station when I bought it..therefore no cd-rom or cd-rw! So instead of buying another docking station, I decided to get an external drive. I have to say that I am very impressed. It burned my mp3s into an audio disk in less than 5 minutes, the software was so easy to use that I didn't have to figure anything out or read any manuals. I have yet to try the video editing software but I did take a look at it and it didn't seem too difficult. I love the design and noticed that there are rails on both sides for possible installation into a tower pc?? I love the fact that I can use firewire or usb. Both cables came with it. It has an extra firewire port in back to piggy back another drive. My only complaints are that the lightscribe feature takes a little long to do. I burned a full disk background and it took 20 min. Maybe if you keep your design on a more simple level it would be faster (ie. lightscribing just the title and tracks without any background picture). I also wish that lightscribe cd-r's were a little cheaper (runs about $1 a disk and only comes in gold!). Would also like to see more options when it comes to the lightscribe cd-r's. How about something besides gold? I would like to see in the future this drive made a little more flashy (blue lights? neons?) like the other new drives as this one seems to cost a little more than the other brands I've seen and they do have the lights.

"Simple to use, Perfect burns so far"
on by jdintinoPros work well with other drives and software
Cons none so far
Summary Worth the money
-
"total rip-off , lightscribe doesn't work"
on by xtrabad6969Pros None - this product is garbage!
Cons It does not work - even when it does you have to burn the label more than once to even see it.
Summary DON"T BUY ONE
Mine worked fine for about 15-20 labels, then it stopped recognizing lightscribe media. I re-installed the software and it worked OK for a few more labels then it stopped working again. The hardware is probably OK but the software just doesn't work. -
"Works like a champ"
Pros Works well out of the box.
Cons LightScribe is a little slow, but the wait is well worth it.
Summary If you need a DL burner and use it between platforms (Win/Mac), this drive is flawless.
