"Worked fine at first, then stopped..."
on by pumpkinsoftruthPros Read all discs I threw at it, burned numerous DVDs and DL DVDs. I bought this a while ago and it worked fine for some months.
Cons Drive tray won't come out anymore. I am always careful with my drives, never shove the tray back in like some people do, but it just won't open now. Instead it just makes a noise, the blue light flashes, and it quits.
Summary Although I thought this was going to be a decent DVD burner that would last at least as long as my others, it did not. The laser works fine but the tray is stuck closed. Poor quality parts, like the motor that controls whether the drive opens or not, are why my review is so low.

Summary Last I looked, this model, which has been superseded by a somewhat faster model (20x write speeds), was going for about 50 bucks on Amazon. My Superdrive on my iMac went dead, I couldn't afford to lose time, so I had this shipped to me. My iMac recognized it instantly, you can use it horizontally or, to save space, vertically (as I did); it was faster than my Superdrive; equally good on CDs and DVDs. A life-saver. Worked with iTunes, Toast, and other programs. Never tried the software with the machine. Comes with optional cables (USB or Firewire).

Summary My second DVD R, my first cost at the time I bought it was almost twice the price of My Maxtor. I comand it to do a job and I have not had a problem with it yet. looking to buy the Maxtor DVD Rom to match my DVD R. It will make my 3rd rom from Maxtor.

Summary Memorex has done a great job preparing you to install this product. Great instructions on how to get this in your computer and working. Once in, XP recognized it right away. I am not using Nero, because I already have Easy Media Creator 7. So far no coasters. I have 2 other dvd players in my house and my dvds worked in both. I am very happy with this purchase!
