"Great burner for DVD's and CD's"
Pros: The hardware is rock solid. All of the video DVD's I've burned have played on every DVD player I've tried. It's quick and pretty quiet. Easy to use. Works great with other DVD authoring software like Encore.
Cons: The software that ships with it stinks. I ended up dropping a bunch on DVD authoring tools. IT's fine if all you want is home movies with no frills, if you want more, anticipate buying more software. I've burned only 1 or 2 bad DVD's out of several doz

Cons: stopped burning for no apparent reason, had it for almost a year and its really dead, tried everything.

"No coasters with decent media"
Pros: I have not made a single coaster with the DVR-A05. Seriously. The key is probably using decent quality ($$) DVD media. I haven't played aroud with generic media to see how compatible they are with the drive or set-top players. Burning on say TDK or Maxell
Cons: The DVR-A05 doesn't support as many formats as newer drives, and it's a bit on the slow side, but I haven't noticed that much.

Pros: Wide spread use base, hacked firmwares available (faster ripping, faster burning). Very reliable. Works with Linux!!!
Cons: Original Firmware limits media compatability (same problem with ANY DVD Writer)

"The Nightmare of my DVD life..."
Pros: Write CD media just fine...
Cons: This drive NEVER worked properly with DVD-R media...every DVD I burned with this drive had serious errors after 10-15 minutes of viewing. Pioneer customer service is a nightmare...I was originally told to take the product to a local authorized service ce
