"Awesome burner. Buy it." on by howdyisneill
Pros: Simple to use, simple to hook up, good software.
Cons: On/Off switch should be in the front
Summary: Why consider anything else? This burner rates at the top of all catagories. The fan is a bit noisy but your not burning 99% of the time so turn it off. Switch being in front would make that easier. This is a wonderful product and you'll be wise to buy this burner. I got it for $40 after $90 in rebates but I see those have ended. He who hesitates is---well you know the rest. Still buy this burner even if you have missed out on the rebates.

"Awsome burner. Definitely the best!" on by vgfreak
Pros: Speed and Durability
Cons: Ugly looking
Summary: Justifying its name as the leader in storage devices and particularly in DVD burners, Plextor did it again.
All the tests I've read over the internet about this driver materialized as 4 minutes for a DVD-R x16.
Note that the new driver 750UF only improves on this drive in one aspect: DVD-R DL which is x6 in 750UF compared with x4 in this model. That's it!

"Good Burner" on by Rocker452
Pros: Burns most formats and dual layer and has good speeds
Cons: Bundled software but you don't have to install it .
Summary: I bought this from Tiger Direct for about $50.00 after rebates and have been satisfied with the performance of the drive. I have only burned a few CD-Rs with it so far but they went without flaws and burned a lot quicker than the drive that came in my laptop which is a 24X CDR/W DVD combo drive. I haven't burned any DVDs with it yet so can't say how the performance for that is but for the deal I got on it and the reviews I've read it should be fine. It was too good a deal to pass up.

"awesome and its perfect burning a tons of dvds and cds." on by rbgsxr750
Pros: have an excellent speed and performance.
Cons: fan is little loud. but it dosent bother me too much.
Summary: i got this for 100.00, still a little expensive. the reg. price was at 149.99. i'm glad, i waited for a 50.00 rebate. i gone thru 2 dvd burners a sony and cheap pioneer, both of those can't last long or handle a load of burning dvds and cds. i sure burn alot. and, i notice, i surpass amount of dvds and cds on the old 2 burners. this can handle over thousands uses, so far.

"Good while it lasted" on by rednroll
Pros: Burned well, and made reliable burns
Cons: Stopped working after about 40 DVD burns, bad warranty service
Summary: I thought this DVD burner was great. I had it connected to my laptop for less than a year with very light use. I've burned about 40 DVD movies with it during the year of owning it. I've owned many Plextor CD burners and always considered them to be the best and I therefore, didn't mind paying the higher price until now. I didn't save my receipt and Plextor would not do a warranty exchange. I paid $150 for this burner and got 40 burns out of it, before it just stopped burning and the tech support basically told me I'm SOL. I have a $99 Pioneer and $55 LG burner, which I've owned much longer and have used more often. They still work, the Plextor doesn't. This PX-740UF is "Made in China". All my other Plextor drives that are still working after many years of use are "Made In Japan".
Don't buy Plextor burners. They're not worth the extra money any longer. They are cheap Chinese made burners, with the same higher price tag. Buy an LG. At $55, you can at least afford a "throw away" burner.
