Cons Doesn't work well after 3 months
Summary This was the OEM DVD-RW drive that came with my Gateway 504GR. It worked great the first 3 months that I had my system, but shortly after that I couldn't burn any CD-R's and it wouldn't recognize CD-R's that I burned in the past. After looking into a newsgroup I found that a lot of people have had this problem. Advice don't get one or if you buy a new system make sure this drive is not in it.

Summary find and load,forums are full of people with problems like dvd stops working after reading a cd, and vice versa (that's me there as well), distorted pixels while reading, no updates or info on the Samsun site (?), and i guess that's it. Seriously one to avoid. LG writers a bit more $, but quality of life comes into play!

Cons Stopped working and is un-fixable
Summary I bought this model # as my second burner after my Dell fritzed out and it worked fine for 1 year and 1 day and then it lost its mind. It simply lost the ability to read blank disks. It can no longer see them so it can't write to them. How does this happen after working well for a year?
I have consulted the manufacturer website and they have no knowledge of this, however tech-forums are filled with complaints because no one can fix theirs. Go ahead and Google the model # (TS-H552b), then don't buy this. The latest firmware update (#10) did nothing.
So frustrated that I have to go out during the holidays and buy my computer a new present! -

Summary This unit has about a 1/10 chance in successfully making a readable DVD. Which, rather defeats the purpose of a DVD Burner now doesn't it? Good thing it's dirt cheap, but stealing is still stealing, if it's 30 bucks or not. And they might as well just steal your money than act like this is a purchase.

Summary They should be sued because this thing sux so bad. Worst piece of carp I've every purchased in 15 years. Forget lightscribe, basic writes don't work most of the time. Driver support horrible, customer support? where? Last Samsung anything I buy, ever.
