Summary This is an awesome drive! Speed is okay. The fact that you are getting a universal format drive for just a few more $$$ than the others that give you just "+" or "-", I can wait an extra few seconds! The software plugged in seamlessly with my Vaio software bundle! Its great to burn direct from miniDV and and MemoryStick to any format:Brother needs -R/RW, Mom and Dad need +R/RW, Sister needs CD...

Summary Installed like a dream, first DVD was started minutes later and completed 4.65GB in 21 minutes on a +RW disk. Veritas is a bit clumsy but handles my Sony CDRW writer as well. I had to give up Roxio which is a shame (its incompatible and removed when you install Veritas). Have yet to burn my first Video DVD which is the main reason I bought the drive, that's the plan this weekend. Only niggle is that some CD-RWs were unreadable in the drive, but fine in my CD recorder. Maybe its trying to do too much at once?

  • "good show.. little performance"

Summary Sony is an EXCELLENT choice. You should ONLY buy a multifunction burner that supports BOTH the (+) plus and (-) minus flavors of DVDR/W... otherwise you'll have a doubly useless POS. I don't mind the price for bleeding edge. I do mind LIMITED USEABILITY. Get your act together sony -- especially on the Windows XP front. DONT back away from multi-flavor support. That's the RIGHT PHILOSOPHY. No sane person would consider anything less. remarkable drive is the first to support all four popular formats (DVD-R, DVD+R, DVD-RW, and DVD+RW). That's the way to go. Grip #2: turn UP the speed on CDR and CDRW. C'mon. I don't want to take a speed hit to get more features. That's just plain silly
