Summary: I bought the 500AX to go along with my new high end Compaq computer and a new Canon ZR65 digital camcorder so that I could convert my 43 family VHS films to DVD discs. In 6 days, I have yet to burn ONE unedited raw tape! First of all, Sony's Tech Support is lame. Most of their responses are either "it's someone else's problem", or "I don't know." As an example, 3 Tech people at Sony have advised that their 120 minute-4.67 RW discs are truly only good for 58 minutes or less, depending on editing. Also, they are ignorant as to the operational features of their own software called "My DVD". On my first tape I had 8 ten minute tracks, but their program only allowed 6 on the menu per burn. They said I could follow with a second burn on the same RW to pull them together which is not true. Either way, if it takes this much time and effort and DVDs to burn an unedited, raw VHS tape, it's not worth it. If you can edit and can afford the DVD discs, try someone else's before you buy.I am 65, 30 yrs. in industry, and I have a Masters.
