"For the price, it's awesome..." on
Summary: This drive is really good. Despite it doesn't write to DVD-R isn't so much a major problem. Any dvd player these days should play DVD+RW just fine. Plus they're getting so affordable these days, you may as well get a newer one anyway. Software is really easy to use, installation is a snap. Backing up my computer is a breeze also. Love this drive. Only thing I didn't like was having to update the software it came with. Each time I had to reboot after I applied each update (eh, I'll get over it).

Pros: This product will work GREAT wirh DVDXCOPY Gold and Express. I have "backed-up" over 40 DVD's from my collection and watch them instead of the original. Have not had a problem with DVD-R media I bought from www.americal.com.
Cons: No support from Sony on Firmware updates. IF Sony shows no support then this isn't quite a Sony product isn't it? Still uncertain about DVD-RW media...

"I'm a happy camper." on
Summary: I bought this drive to save my edited home videos. Its fast enough, affordable enough, and very reliable. I am a happy camper.

"I would like it better....." on
Summary: This new format(+RW)is a winner but its the lack of software to use with it is a problem. Still waiting for a few more software vendors to step up.

"Haven't had a problem yet" on
Summary: Sony is the closest the PC world has come to the reliability of the average Apple Product. Steve Jobs and Apple engineering are in a whole other world from anything produced for the PC. Plug-and-Pray, I think they call it? I build and use PCs but for the average user you can't beat the beta testing and product compatibility testing that goes into every Apple product. Pardon the Pun, but you're comparing apples and oranges here.
