Sony DRU120A DVD+RW / CD-RW drive user reviews

Summary OK, I have read several reviews and alot of them were OK on the hardware and negative on the software. I never loaded the software because I assumed it could not compete with NERO version 5.10 or ROXIO CD Creator 6 and I fortunately own both. I installed the Sony DRU120A DVD+RW / CD-RW drive and it was immediately recognised by XP Pro and both the NERO and ROXIO programs worked with it flawlessly. Very fast DVD+RW. I don't think every company that makes CD type hardware should be in the software business as well. Sony needs a strategic allience in the software area and stick to what they do well - create solid hardware that is reliable and technologically advanced.

Summary Have place alot of digital 8 home movies on dvd's and I am very satified exspecially when you write to dvdrw and If I don't like the finished movie that I viewed on my tv and dvd player I just erase it on my pc and rewrite it again.

Summary I've had nothing but problems with this device since purchasing it. I have a stack of expensive DVD+R and DVD+RW coasters and still have yet to making a functioning disk. This just bolsters my general experience with Sony products as of late.

Summary Go for the DRU500A instead. Its the same price but with support for the much cheaper -R/RW format. The DRU500A makes this drive obsolete

Summary This burner is great. The only thing, is that the software that comes with it really blows. NeoDVD isnt even compatal=ble with the burner(for makeing your own DVD's). It makes a good VCD.

Summary the software had more bologna in it than a sandwich. i'm a vegetarian so i did not appreciate the excess bologna included with this dvd burner.

Summary The drive is fine. However, if you plan to buy it don't waste your time and costly DVD discs using the supplied NEO DVD software. Instead, purchase Ulead Movie Factory for $50. Better yet, to produce top notch DVD's, buy Ulead's DVD Workshop for about $270. You can get free trial downloads of each if you want. If you want to make quality DVD copies of your precious home movies, spend the extra money on something that works good. NEO DVD has a severe video/voice sync problem, just for starts.

Summary Drive worked great for making CD-ROM and DVD-ROM backups. But the video software (Neo) was pretty crappy - didn't import my files, menus looked bad etc. As a long-time Sonic user, I'm surprised Sony went for an inferior software.

Summary I didn't believe it could happen, but after plugging this drive into two seperate machines and having the same problem, I am now convinced. It did something evil to the BIOS on both of the machines, and now neither will boot.

Summary Excellent no nonsense burner...Easy installed. Fast. Relaiable. Have created many projects and RW many times.

Summary this unit makes good DVD+RW, CD-R, and CD-RW disks, it also makes DVD+R coasters at $10 a crack
