"Well built!" on by Scott Switzer

    Pros: Robust sound, Great picture

    Cons: None so far

Summary: Decided to go DVD player shopping to see if I could improve on my 1999 Pioneer player. All other tests to date yeilded no better results than the old Panny. I just upgraded to the Sony LCD 40" flat panel, and have always wanted a Denon DVD, so I did the research. Seems to me to be the best player for the money, and if asthetics are important to you, this is the best looking unit out there to. Just can't get used to all that silver "slimline" stuff on the market. My other concern was I thought I needed HDMI output for the new Sony TV. Turns out I was wrong! I'm here to dispell the myth... HDMI is not necessarily better! It is different, but in this case, NOT better. Everyone agreed, after I tweaked the picture settings on the DVD and the TV, the Component output won in everyones opinion. I had to see it for myself and it was true. If you read all the reviews on the subject, you'll get all sorts of opinions. Some say HDMI hands down, some say Component is better for them. It got really confusing. In this case, a hot TV teamed up with a really nice DVD player, and I'll go Component! There's all kinds of cool hardware in the DVD player, like the Faroudja video chip, and the Burr-Brown DAC's... I'm hearing nuances to music I never heard before! Even my wife admitts it sounds better. The picture, while not quite HD quality, is darn close. So, while you can get the Panasonic for about $100 less... I've read it doesn't sound as good as the Denon, and doesn't even come close as far as looking good on your equipment shelf! Go ahead... you won't be dissapointed.

"Denon did it again. Awesome." on by CWILEY42

    Pros: Excellent video and audio

    Cons: None so far.

Summary: I really love the sound of this player. It sounds better than my older Denon DM-340 cd player. The video is awesome when hooked up to my Panasonic LCD 52" HDTV through HDMI. I couldn't belive the difference HDMI made over a component hook up for video. I am a long time Denon customer who has always been satisfied with their products. I always do alot of research before I make a purchase and my hard earned money always seems to go to Denon.

"Graet Up-Scaling DVD player!!!" on by ches111

Pros: Upconverting Player with minimal artifacts on a 118" screen. Easy to use front buttons with most functions available. Great user configurability for multiple menu options.

Cons: None yet. HDMI connector is not their fault.... It is the fault of the standards folks..

Summary: If you are looking for a DVD playwer with up-convert capablility this is really a great deal. I was worried at first having read reviews on AVS that stated there were macro blocking issue with this players scaler. These reviews are a little overstated. I viewed many of the "known" video sources that help to show off this problem and the 1920 handled them all well. And it will pass a Judder test.

Great player that easily configures for 480P, 576P,720P, 1080I. I would most definetly buy this again.

"Poor performance for a HDMI DVD player" on by coolvela

    Pros: HDMI quality

Cons: Poor performance, won't read DL+R, Outdated display

Summary: Never thought about buying Denon. I haven't trust in this brand all my life but it was the only DVD player for under $350.00 that offered HDMI capability. Well after having the player for five months I'm totally disappointed when I realized that won't play my DL+R DVD that I burned in my computer. Also my Pioneer DV-C302D that is 6 years older outperform the single DVD DENON Progressive Player with HDMI IN/OUT. My personal opinion look for another brand, this one is not worth it.

"great entry into audiophile level home theatre world" on by mdecher

Pros: HDMI upconversion, pure direct mode, SACD, DVD-Audio

Cons: poor remote design, does not completely eliminate layer change stalls even with buffer

Summary: This is a great dvd player. After having used a "big box" level sony player purchased for $200 3 years ago, i was reluctant to actually pay more for a technology i was already entrenched in, but the choice was worth it. For $350 dollars i went from thinking that maybe my hd tv wasnt worth it to believing that i must replace every tv in my home. The upconversion on this unit is excellent, especially in comparison to onboard tv upconversion. The biggest positive to the player is its sound quality, it is unbelievable for the price point, well worth every penny.
