"A very sweet all-in-one universal."
Pros: Versitile player capable of a multitude of disc formats, sweet sound, excellent picture quality.
Cons: Could be seen as being a bit pricey, especially in light of the new HD-DVD and Blu-Ray machines coming out.
Summary: This will likely be the last primary purpose DVD player that I'll ever buy (knock wood), given the advent of the HD-DVD and Blu-Ray eras. But the DVD-3910 a great and solid enough performer in its own right that I won't bother considering other even more premium level, all-n-one ultra alternatives from Linn, Bel Canto, Arye or even Denon themselves, as much as I'd like to have one of those even if it's for nothing much more than bragging rights. The DVD-3910 is that good. In just over a year's worth of use, every disk format I have thrown at the thing has performed spectacularly, particularly SACD, though DVD-Audio (given the disc) has been pretty stellar as well.
Despite the SACD performance, the DVD-3910 is used primarily for DVD viewing, and in this regard it's done itself right very well indeed. I've currently got this player hooked up through an older Denon receiver, the AVR-3805, which I think is a capable unit of good quality and performance. But I tend to think that the 3910 could do even better (the two-channel CD section performs magnificantly when I hooked this up to my old Mark Levinson stereo amplification), so I've been on the lookout for a better separate multi-channel amp/pre-amp solution. It seems to be that great and worthy of a performer. Until then and when finances permit, I'd say that the 3910 is a real gem of a player that puts the rest of the electronics of my current home theater system to shame.
